Pilot Edge 540 vs. EG 540? 50cc Version

Not to start brand war but rather compare differences:
Tunnel ready for cannister?
Both accept DA 60?
Would like to see the inside of the pillot air frame.

Just bought a 50cc Pilot Edge 540 at the Joe Nall event. The Green, Silver, Black version.

I've started building it and will take pictures of the inside for you later today. Any special dimension that you want?

One note, the elevator servos are in the fuselage so removing the stab for storage will be more time consuming (difficult) than from a larger sized plane.

Yes there is a nice sized tunnel for a canister.

I am strongly leaning to buying a DA 60 for this plane, was thinking of an Evolution 58 but I'm not happy with the comments that I've read about this engine.

The firewall is adjustable so there will be no problem putting this engine in it.

one you can buy replacement parts for, the other you can't,that should make it a easy choice.

which one are parts not availible for? I jusst finished a Pilot edge 540 with a 55cc twin, haven't flown it because I haven't been able to fly for about 3 months and feel to rusty for a maiden, I need to fly some of my other planes to get my confidence back up.

Pilot parts are easy to come by. Either from Chief or direct from Tony.

Parts issue may not be a deciding factor. A friend crashed his 30% Pilot Sbach last week, Chief does not have a wing panel, wheel pants, canopy/hatch or a wingtube and doesnt know if they will have them by August or not. Yes, the wingtube snapped in two and the wing panel is not that bad.

You may want to call hobby stores that handle EG, I have found that some of them will buy full kits just to have parts on hand, Azhar at Aztec hobbies is one of them.

Have you asked about the parts direct from Pilot ? Tony is building a wing for me now. I'm not exactly happy that Chief didn't have the parts (new plane damaged in shipping) in the states, but they are taking care of me.

Not my experience, but I will say that they both vary a little too much, and that a good EG could be better than a bad Pilot.

You could be right. I only have experience with one each. My Pilot was not too good. The firewall did not even fit in the engine box properly without some sanding and filing. I also prefer a plane to have wire guides to run the wires from the tail to the powerbox/ receiver. Overall Pilot is good, but I thought the EG was much better. I beat the hell out of the EG over 200 flights and it stood up to it.

I really had my eye on the Pilot 50cc Sbach but was dissapointed with things about my friends Pilot Sbach. Before he crashed it I noticed that the wingtube fit loosely into the wing and the fuse. Also there was a nasty pull to the gear on knife edge, more than what would be considered typical. That said along with hard to get parts was enough to change my mind.
I bought a EG MX2 50cc today. Aztec sold their last one on Friday but Tony at Red Aero RC has a few, mine should be here in about a week.

EG line of planes are built very light and strong. DA-60 would make that plane a bullet and tons of fun! As for spare parts, every company goes through a lag in not having spare parts...So I wouldn't base it off that.

My vote is for Pilot as well. You get a good plane and excellent support including parts. Maybe some day Goldwing, EGA, Slipstream etc. will wake up and start supporting their planes better.
