Re: How many Flights is TOO many?
I have yet to wear out one of my planes. I have crashed quite a few but never because of airframe failure. I would think servos would wear out before airframe .I would wonder how many flights on servos before they fail? I did get quite a few laughs reading this tread

Re: How many Flights is TOO many?
Vince, sorry. I was confused back there, and thought Darren was asking the question. Hey, you know my old plane, Radiocraft Extra 330LX. It's been damaged and repaired so much, that I suspect almost a 1/4 of it is new, but I am sure it can go on for many more years. I believe it is over 7 years old now. Others say I should get a better flying plane and step up to a 40%. We'll see. Almost pulled the trigger on a QQ Yak Gen IV when they were in stock.
Any hints on what you are seriously considering? W |

As it turns out, I will have the opportunity(unless something drastic changes) to fly significantly more this summer. I plan to hit several competitions. I have been seriously considering the 40% range extra's, Dalton, Carden, Comp Arf.... the usual suspects. That H9 that Vilwock was flying last summer was said to be pretty good too.(by Rains, Wondra, Carrero, Tony T and anyone else who flew it.) I am looking to buy used so I am a bit limited. For the price the SD/TOC/TT/????next extra is pretty good. For me, its a personal tradeoff issue. It is not convienient or practical for me to have a trailer so I must consider storage and transportation issues (specially with 4 kids worth of toys in my garage with my aircraft, although my kids are very respectful of my airplanes). I will let you know if/when I get one! V |

Re: How many Flights is TOO many?
A friend has now over 1500 !!! flights on his full composite pattern plane (manufacturer: MTL) from f3alorenz.de and still counting in competition (german championchips DMFV F3A).
Plane equipped with OS140rx and still looking (and feeling from strenght) like new. Depends on what you fly, what manufacturer and Quality and material the plane is build. If everything is excellent more than 1500 flights should be no problem for pattern. For hardcore 3D --- well sometimes not even over or 500... (i now severel guys had to replace wings because of failures /broken parts/delaminated again and again -because the flown maneuvers were too heavy and the amount of flights for doing this again and again too much...) Curse out loud several times and begin chain smoking Marlboros. (even though I've quit smoking) Grab cell phone (in a disgusted, frustrated, and angry sort of way) Hit speed dial (Horizon, Aeroworks, LHS, take your pick. Sometimes its all three) "Ah, yeah. Chad again. Yep, need another one. . .oh, my CC is on file. Excellent.. . .(barf) yep, I'll be looking for it here in a week or so. uh huh, that's right. I'm going to the grocery store to binge eat oreos and snickers bars, then I'm going to "purge" and head for the bar. Thanks guys." So a big 'UP YERS' if you keep a plane long enough to actually get to fix a glue joint or a backed out screw! (J/K of course) |

Its been awhile until I have had to make a call like that but I still have all the numbers in my speed dial list. I use voice dialing and they all have "special" names to get them to dial! LOL V |

I know it's not a competition plane but I had a 60 size Four Star that I quit counting past 1500. I wore out an OS91FS and a Saito 72 and was on the second OS91FS when a student decided to try to "filter" it through fully grown corn stalks. I'm positive it was well over 2K flights Covering was looking pretty ratty but as far as structure goes it was solid as it was on day one and we literally flew the snot out of it. I'm currently somewhere close to 500+ on my 2.6 C-Arf 260 (Casper) and that does not include the 250 or so the previous owner put on it. My flights are nothing but IMAC and his were a combo of hard 3D and IMAC |

Re: How many Flights is TOO many?
Well as posted earlier.... they last until you take them home in a bag! This one had about 800 flights and it was still in mint condition just before........ the end.....

Re: How many Flights is TOO many?
An airframe will last a long long time as long as your maintenance practices/ inspections are done right and with both eyes OPEN! I inspect my plane before and after every flying session and between flights to make sure all is well. I've found things from pinched fuel lines to chaffed ignition wires. My 40% Carden Edge 54o is roughly 10yrs old, I'm the 2nd owner and it still flies GREAT, as a matter of fact it's my primary plane, I have a SD 260 but I much rather my Carden, I 3D the heck out of this thing, snaps, walls, it does it all.... The only problem I have is that I've bent 2 wing tubes doing walls and snaps... other than that, She's GREAT!!! Inspect, Inspect...preventive maintenance will keep your plane flying a long time...
