wing tubes & sleeves

Going to try a 50cc extra scratch build. I know TNT has tubes & sleeves, anywhere else I can try? Also looking for feedback on the size tubes I should use for a 50cc plane.

thanks

I have used both 1 1/4" and 1 1/2" by 36" for this size models. By friends Aeroworks 260 75cc size has a carbon fiber tube about 1 1/4" however I expect it is metric dimensions. I would go with 1 1/4"

I have three 50cc airplanes right now that all use different size tubes. My Carf extra is 40mm my Aeroworks Extra is 32mm and my Pilot Edge much smaller. I've never measured it to see what size it is, but I would guess it to be about an inch.

On the 50cc airplane I'm scratch building right now I'm using a 32mm because I'm reusing a set of Aeroworks Yak wings.

The cap 232 that I'm building has a 1 1/4" tube but a buddy I fly with has an older 50cc Carden cap 232 that uses 1 1/2" tube. It's all up to you really.

I think I will go with the 1-1//4". I'm going to build an 88" ws and 80" long, and put the center of the tube 10-1/2" back from F1. Sound ok?

First lay out your fuse design with all your "known" items. Outline, engine, cowl, canopy, etc. Then design your wing outline, area, airfoil etc. Calculate the CG, place the tube in the wing then place the wing / tube onto the fuse with consideration to engine and component weight. (This is all done on paper not order of construction.) 10 1/2" sounds way too far forward. When in doubt compare to some descent flying airplane that already exists to check if your in the ballpark if its your first time.

I measured three different 50cc airplanes when I designed the one I'm working on now. What I ended up with is very similar proportions to my 50cc Aeroworks Extra 300.

The center of the wing tube is 21 3/8" from the back of the spinner, 15 1/8" from the firewall and 11 1/8" from F1/Rear of Cowl. The airplane is 74" long from the front of the cowl to the back of the rudder, if any of that will help.

Since I'm using the cowl from a Top Flite P47 and the wings and stabs from an Aeroworks Yak 54, that pretty well locked me into certain dimensions.

That sounds like a badass design!! Can't wait to see it come together!

Here's one I'm just getting started on, but it's a little larger. 92" long including cowl. Tube is just shy of 21" back from firewall and 13.5" back from FW. https://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/...ad.php?t=86265

Thanks guy's, working on my design. Cowl and canopy was delivered today, so now I have some #'s to work with.
And bye the way, both of your build threads are awesome. Have learned a lot, and they have given me the motivation to do one myself.
