What size you need? I'm not sure I can get away on Saturday yet, I think I gotta watch the kids that day.

23x8 is what I had, and I'm going to get the same size for a replacement.

Re: PAU 30% Sukhoi Su-26m Build and Fly

I have a PAU 22-3Da prop but to get good performance from this engine and plane, I think a 23" is really best. I'm just kicking myself that I'm going to miss out on some Sukhoi test flying with the good weather that we're supposed to have this week. No worries though, I think I have something to keep me occupied for a couple days........

What field are you all going to be flying at this weekend, Belair or where?

Oh I'll be there for sure. Now that PAU has complicated my first gasser choice. My Velox needs to reaquaint itself with the air. Not to mention the slab.................

Which planes are you deciding between? Chances are we'll have a pretty good selection for you to check out this weekend. I'll bring my 50cc Edge if you want some flight time on one of those.

Well I took the Edge off my list because everyone up here flies one. So my choices were between the EF 50cc Yak or the Extra. I forgot all about the darn Suk and I saw the prototype fly. Just spaced it out I guess. And when Ken flew the prototype I was pretty down on low wing planes. Cap ation I guess. Anyway, looking forward to meeting you.

Re: PAU 30% Sukhoi Su-26m Build and Fly

While Ryan was out maidening his Sukhoi, I was building the cannister mounts for mine. I figure I may as well get as much done as I can now without my engine so that when the engine does get here it will be the last thing to mount. Ryan already paved the way with his install, and I didn't see any reason to re-invent the wheel, so I used the same method.

First thing I did was take some scrap plywood and trace the contour of the bottom of the fuse onto the wood.

I then measured the width and height and cut out the plywood plate to size.

I checked the fit, and made a second copy. It also occured to me during the test fit that if you didn't plan to use the pipe tunnel you could cap it off pretty easily.

I marked out where I wanted the center cut out using a compass.

I drilled a hole in the cutout and threaded it onto my scroll saw, and proceeded to cut out the circle.

Using a forstner bit, I drilled a series of holes around the perimeter to thread the fuel tubing through. All the while I was doing the same thing twice.

I test fit the two mounts again and slid the pipe in to test the fit, which fit like a glove.

I won't glue them in until I have the engine, so that I can make sure that the pipe lines up with the header. I kind of took a leap of faith without the engine mounted as to placement, but with a fair estimate and a flex header I think I should be in good shape.

Good idea on cutting the outline for your cannister mounts, Chris! Hopefully they will allow enough air through to allow cooling of the entire cannister. I may take this maintenance opportunity to knock my front cannister mount out and move it back a bit - my cannister slid back just a bit too far and I want to support it better. Those considering the CS-65 cannister: Install the front mount further back than I did.

It really does pay for itself the first time you use it.

You know looking at the photos I just posted, I see a lot of material on the mounts that I could remove. I think I will go back into the corners with a larger forstner bit and put a circle in each one.
