I've been thinking about installing smoke on my latest model but have been told that eventually the smoke can damage the paint scheme on the underside of your model. I love the look of smoke, but also love the look of my model.

Q. Is this true?

Q. Are there certain mixtures that are more prone to causing this?

Q. What options do I have.

yup - yup and smoke is great on somebody else's plane!!!

so what your saying is, if you like a pretty plane and don't really NEED the smoke, then don't fit a smoke pump?

man the smoke thing is really cool - then you look at what it costs and the damage to the plane - the smoke oils goes in every where - and the covering changes color if you dont clean fast - look i use smoke on my show planes only - once or twice a year i do the smoke thing and everytime i get back we have a major cleaning operation to get the oil out - so sorry to tell it like this but its the real story!!
I am sure others agree - and if you use diesel and these other heavy chemicals its even worse - fact

the worst was when we tried colored smoke - it looked so good and then we tried to clean up the mess - never again bro!!!!

hi dean if you got a composite the only thing not to use is brake fluid,,
i have try it on a woody & works good but not a compy mate,,
i got a home made system its a pump from a feild fuel pump works wicked ..it is 2 yrs old & had 50 odd ltrs threw it my showtime pump weighed more & lasted 20ltrs maybe my fault puting all types of stuff threw it

we bought the colored die from the company that does it for the red arrows - in England - messy stuff please believe me

I use the smoke system with no problems ... At the end of our last flight we clean the plane with window cleaner and oil cleaner that my mother uses in the kitchen!

YAKS - interesting quote that smoke oil is no problem - over time you will see the effect on covering and if a composite - the oil gets in between the epoxy and glass and then it will just penetrate slowly until one day you have a frame failure in a snap - on wood it gets in at the motorbox and canopy also into the tail and after awile the wood goes soft and the covering dont stik anymore etc - so yes smoke is great fun but in the end you are the only one footing the bill - i still and will always use smoke at shows but never just for flying around,

its been a while - i found them on google one day - google red smoke fluid in red arrows!!

yes smoke oil on the comp are for sure better and easier to clean.

I think that there needs to be a thread especially dedicated to Adrians avatars, he seems to have a different hottie every day
