Lets order some accessories for the upcoming ultra stick

While I'm waiting on the new Hangar 9 Ultra Stick to release, I decided to go ahead and gather a few things to make the wait a little more bearable.

First, pre-order the plane... $299

Motor... I had already ordered a DLE 35RA before the plane was announced. Tower had it on sale, $30 off and a club savings of $45...$275

Servo's... Been wanting to try the Tactic X57's for a while now, I've had good luck with Tactic's standard servos and they seem to have some nice specs for the price http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXDKEP&P=SM ordered 6 (still haven't decided how I want to setup the rudder so I'll wait on that....$170

Now for a little bling... Because I hate using Phillips head screws (and like the way they look) I ordered these http://www.espritmodel.com/servo-hor...set-m3-10.aspx Tried to find the green ones elsewhere (because ...) but they did ship same day. $9

Spinner...Looking over the manual, it looks like the ARF doesn't include a spinner. I'm not a fan of the chrome/aluminum or bland/black CF spinners I set out to find something different that'll fit the Stick. Found one I think will fit the bill at SDS Hobbyhttp://sdshobbyusa.net/index.php?mai...oducts_id=3572 I've never ordered from SDS, but the spinner shipped same day (Monday) and tracking shows it on it's way from Florida. USPS really stinks in my town so they're holding the order up (supposed to have arrived 2 days ago) but not really shippers fault....$30

Loom... http://www.ebay.com/itm/141743771843...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT $7

Cheap wing bags, I can't see spending $50-$75 on wing bags when these do the trick http://www.ebay.com/itm/161885190951...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I got the 50 cc bags because I wasn't sure if the 81" wings would fit in the 30 cc bags. They're straight ghetto, but work $27

Prop http://www.redwingrc.com/Painted-Red...White-and-Red/ I'm thinking the white prop with the green spinner will look good on the nose. I use a larger black/red prop on another plane and really like the way it pulls. 20x6 wasn't in stock so I went with a 19" $20

Servo arms https://www.redwingrc.com/Spot-On-1.75-Servo-Arm/ I used the Spot-on's on another build and really like them (make sure they're v'2, the v1's had issues) The color shouldn't really matter because the Stick has hidden hatches. I went with 1.75 because they have 3 holes (1.75, 1.5 and 1.25) and I can dial the travel down if necessary 6 for $70

OK, that's what I have coming so far, now for the things I'm looking at.ordering in the next month or 2.

Switch... I was looking at getting this from Booma http://www.boomarc.com/en/wallaby-sw...age-monitoring I use one now on another plane and really like it. Looking over the site though, I don't see an option to choose your own connector (like you used to be able to). Booma's supposed to be opening a place in the states soon, so I'll wait and see on a switch. I might move up to the Intelliswitch.or see what they have at Joe Noll.

Now things get complicated... Having just upgraded from a DX7 to a DX8, I'm definitely not wanting to have to upgrade again but I do want to make full use of the Ultra's quad flap/aileron and crow set-up. I need to figure out,, either through hardware or clever programming, a way to control the all the control surfaces and still have an ignition kill. I was also thinking of running an Aura 8 but if it eats another channel, I'll skip the gyro.

For receivers, I've been all over the place. Initially I was going to go with an AR7700 hooked to the Aura 8 through an SRXL cable with a RCCSKJ powerboard handling the electrical power but I'm limited by the 8 channels again. I was looking at the new powersafe receivers http://www.horizonhobby.com/product/...er-spmar12300t

Hi Eric, I'm also going to order the same plane. I've been wanting to try out the new VVRC 40 twin. I'm a bit concerned about balance with this motor but there's always a way to get around that. Hope to here more about your Ultra Stick once it arrives.

Thanks, will do.

The new style VV 40 specs out at 2.87 LBS(a little less if you have the old style), the DLE 35 I have comes in at 2.77 lbs and the EVO33 gx (that the plane was designed for) hits around 3 lbs, so I believe we both should be fine in regards to the cg.

What's your plans for servos on your Stick?

I'm going with all savox. Only because all my other ones have them Most of my stuff is large scale so if something should happen to the ultra stick I can use servos on others if needed.

Good deal, that sounds like a wise plan.

My servos arrived today from Tower, everything else got tied up with the post office. (I forgot they weren't running today) but the spinner, loom and servo screws should be here tomorrow. I just had ordered the prop and servo arms Saturday so it'll be a couple days on them

Small world, huh. I'm on the other side of the state from the Charlotte area, but that's still pretty neat.

Some of the things arrived in the mail today.

Spinner looks real nice, unfortunately the bolt that comes with the spinner isn't long enough to reach the hole in the DLE. Shouldn't be a problem finding the right bolt, just wanted others to be aware.Loom's green and the servo screw covers are closer to an OD green but they'll do the job

I just ordered the light aluminum spinner with a couple extra props from Valleyview. The way I fly low and stupid I'm sure I'll need to lease one spare. 💲

Is the new 40 in stock or do you already have one?

BTW, my prop and servo arms came today, I'm thinking the white props going to look pretty slick up front. Hopefully the color holds up.

I think I've decided on an AR12300T powersafe receiver. Even though its not necessary, I'm still going to use a main power switch (I like being able to cut the power without having to remove the batteries) http://www.dreamworksrc.com/catalog/...yle-Connectors Since Booma no longer gives the option of connectors (other than deans or JR), I'll have to change connectors myself.

I'll also change out the standard failsafe switch with this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/122051011738...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Without the Booma switch, the LED's on the Dualsky flagpin stay on all the time.

Although the receiver comes with a couple generic charge jacks, I prefer this type https://hobbyking.com/en_us/dual-cha...batteries.html It makes charging easier and looks a ton better than the stock holders.

To make wing mounting easier https://www.readymaderc.com/store/in...oducts_id=4008 First time ordering from readymaderc but the connectors were almost $10 cheaper than anywhere else I saw.

With the e-cash I got from the servo purchase at Tower, I ordered some Robart hinges

While at Hayes's (our LHS) I picked up a Hitec MG 5645 for the rudder, still not sure if I'll go pull-pull on the rudder. Purchased a standard Hitec Karbonite geared servo for the throttle while I was there getting a bolt for the spinner.

Ordered a few other misc accessories off Ebay (ignition kill, fuel dot, filters and etc) I hope I got the order in before the new year starts

I changed things up in regards to the receiver set-up. I ended up getting an Ar 7700 receiver paired to an Aura 8 gyro, in hopes of solving my channel shortage problem. So far it looks like this solution should work, combining the flaps, ailerons and elevators inside the gyro should offset the channels needed to activate the gyro and set the master gain. It'll probably take some fandangling on the programming to get everything working (and right now that's above my intelligence grade) but I'm pretty sure we can get it to work.

I also grabbed a powerboard from Redwing https://www.redwingrc.com/Power-Boards-Red-2102/ to handle the two 2100 mah Spektrum LIFE batteries I purchased at my LHS. I realize a lot of this is overkill but the price of the gyro, powerboard and receiver is only like $20-30 more than the Spektrum powersafe receiver and I now have the benefits of the Aura 8.

Almost everything I ordered off Ebay made it on the boat before the new year hit. The only thing that missed the boat (literally) was a cheap fuel tank I was wanting to try http://www.ebay.com/itm/391535116363...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Not a big deal if it doesn't make it before the plane arrives.

So far I'm almost done. The only things I can think I'm missing are the rudder control arm (waiting to see how I want to set-up the rudder) and possibly wheels (Hangar 9 stock wheels can be iffy at times)

Got these for the rudder servo, will only need 1 http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXCVZM

And 3 of these for the control surfaces http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXCVZP

Still haven't decided how I want to do the rudder

I've started building but not really in a hurry. I picked up a pair of pro lite 3.5" tires from the LHS. The landing gear/ pants went together real easy.

Might skip the robart hinges. I drilled the first hole for the hinges and there simply isn't enough wood (maybe 1/2") for the glued in hinge to grab on both the elevator or aileron.

The DLE 35 RA looks like it'll fit with no problem. I was a little concerned about the muffler hitting the bottom of the fuse using the stock stand-offs but it looks like that won't be a problem. I'll have to cut a hole in the bottom of the fuse for the plug wire to make it to the motor and another hole for the timing wire, the muffler's in the way of the one already cut in the firewall.

The servo arms I got are too big for the elevator and rudder servo's to fit side by side (by side)in the fuse so I'll stick the elevator servo's outside and just use the stock rudder location and pushrod

I like this stick so much I'm about to pull the trigger. But I don't like gasoline. What's the best size 4 stroke for this set up?
