A few of the guys like to blame the 3D flyers as well. The other day, we had a member come up for the first time since we instituted the rules and been sold a warbird with a DA-85 on a pitts and told it would pass. It was 106db! which is the highest result I have heard of since we started sound testing. Even the 100cc planes are like 103.

We have even had some glow stuff fail this sound policy. Like others have stated, the club feels it has too much invested to loose the field. The one complaint comes from a college professor that writes for the local paper, so he has a bit more influence than the average citizen.
Are you talking about 100cc with stock mufflers or cans that wouldn't pass? Just curious.

Any 100cc plane period!

We have tested DA-120s on canisters at least twice and it was way over 100. I don't think we bothered with my proflows, but we did the troybuilt cans and MTW 75s.

Last season, before we recalibrated a few 100cc planes passed. My 120 on RE2 with a 26x10THx3 and a 100 on RE2 with a 25x10x3.

I keep questioning where we test the planes, but we have done off site testing with the meters and the results are still bad.

The club president runs a garage and has a calibrator used for motorcycle testing, so we have some degree of accuracy now.

Another local club is on corps of engineer land and they have a noise requirement of 92 at 10 feet! They summarily disregard it, until a 3D pilot shows up. They are flying big warbirds on stock mufflers.

Other clubs in Massachusetts are electric only, or are as stringent as Europe. NH and ME are the two most forested states in the union, and wide open spaces that can be used for RC fields are far and few between. The only "safe" field is the one 2 hours away on prison land or when we get to fly at private airports, which are noise exempt.

I'd truly like to get comparison readings from some normal everyday things. It sounds as if were trying to hit a hard to hit goal?

Just saw this thread and interestingly enough, i e-mailed DA today about the DA-35.

Jeff from DA got back to me shortly after i e-mailed stating that they are waiting for "ignition components to come in" and that there is no time frame (i know less than useful but good to know they are coming with one). I did ask if the new ignition would take a 2 cell lipo unregulated and he stated yes.

Also I suspect the waiting list for the 35 is pretty long. I am waiting to hear performance reports before I jump on one. I am pretty happy with the GT33 and VVRC 40 twin.

How's the weight with the 40 twin compared to the OS33? I'm making a purchase this week.

I'll get the 35 when it comes out, but right now I'm tired of not flying my Edge in fear that my DLE is going to flame out.

Yeah, and the guys from DA told me the 35 would be available in April of 2013. It will be out when it is out. Anything else is just rumor. Believe it when you see it in stock.
