I got the idea from the Phil Goodwine. He did this on his son's 3W yaks.

On the Hemple Yak it was the only way to fit the servo in the tail and not get in the way of the elevator. It give a linear throw like the elevator has. It was one of those "Necessity is the mother of invention" moments. Mounting it through the tail was easier then cutting a hatch. The area that the servo is mounted is part of the plywood parts that gives the tail strength. So there is no chance of the servo coming loose.

Re: Bill Hempel 100cc Yak-55M?????

Has anyone installed pipes on the 100CC version.
I have read a lot of this thread and couldn't find anyone that installed them but just references to it should be easy.
I guess what I am asking is if the tunnel is set up for pipes?

Tony, all my batteries ended up in front of the motor box to balance, with the ruder servo in the stock location, and my engine is about as far forward as it will go - prop hub is 1-1/2" forward of the cowl. It's still a tad tailheavy. Have you taken CG into consideration?

I used 2 2300 A123 and a 1100 on ignition. Didn't you use all 1100s? I also saved an ounce with tha tail wheel. I moved my engine forward 2.5" from the firwall.

It is balanced at the back of the wing tube. I am assuming this is still the correct location.

Re: Bill Hempel 100cc Yak-55M?????

Bill and All-
I have some fraying of the wing tube socket in the fuse.. On one side the very edge of the socket is crunched a touch from not having the wing tube aligned very well when installing.. Now that is has that little bulge it makes putting in the wing tube difficult. I am afraid this bulge will continue to grow as the tube comes in and out..

Any ideas how I can prevent further damage?

I have thought about wicking in some thin CA and then shaving a taper into the socket. Basically, I have no experience with cardboard sockets, so.... any advice?

This CA will work fine. The socket in the fuse is only a guide for the wing tube.
On my Ultra lightning jet (50lbs) it doesn't even use a socket, the wing tube only makes contact with the outside edge of the fuse.

Looks awesome! I am using a 28b on my 3W and it seems to be the right prop for my liking. Hopefully I can get the motor running right so I can get more flights on it soon.
