2008 YOUTH MASTERS!

Originally written by Scott Capps

The 2008 Youth Masters was held at Triple Tree Aerodrome on June 28th and
29th. There were 13 kids flying and approximately 80 spectators. This event
is not about winning or losing it's more about getting the kids a chance to
fly in a contest format, so they can see what it's like and to have fun
doing it. Getting this type of experience without the pressure of being
pushed to win is irreplaceable. A judge or experienced observer would go
over the flight with the pilot after they had completed their sequence to
let the pilots know how to improve.

All Youths, 16 years and younger are welcome to come fly for a weekend of
fun, fellowship and competition. (The skill level does not matter, but all pilots
must be proficient with take off, landing and mild aerobatics). We have two
33% Extra 330's and a Qui Qui Yak that all youths will be flying. The kids
are broken into two groups Basic and Advanced. Basic consist of pilots that
have never competed before and Advanced is for the youths that has competed
in similar contest but never won.

Of course everyone here including the parents and staff were winners this
weekend by just being a part of this event and seeing everyone have fun. We did
judge the rounds and the guys with the highest scores are as follows.

Basic:
1st place - Riley Kissenberth
2nd place - Larry Hairston
3rd place - Jake Boro

Advanced:
1st place - Matt Richards
2nd place - Matt Thomas.

The rest of
the competitors did a great job and are listed in no particular order.
Jonathan Bryans,
Alayna Chandley,
Chance Harris,
JD Hassell,
Mike Pallansch,
JP Stewart,
Luis Verdiales,
and Tyler Wilhelm.

Stan Stockman and Wayne Matthews put on a seminar explaining how to fly
patterns and informed everyone what most judges are looking for and notice
most when judging patterns.

RJ Ritter and Kevin Garland were our expert pilots this year. They took-off
and landed the planes and gave real-time advice as the pilots few their
patterns.

Luis Verdiales and JP Stweart each won a 51cc Gas Engine donated by RC
Extreme Power.

Devon won the Sportsmanship award this year.

You know we love to eat at Triple Tree and this weekend was no different.
Coolers with Pepsi and Water were at the gazebo, Hotdogs were served on
Saturday and all the Pizza you could eat on Sunday. Everyone one that
attended was welcome to enjoy.

Make plans to join us next year for the 2009 Youth Masters. Go to

Great job everyone! We definitely all had a blast. I enjoyed being the "pro taker-offer and lander-guy", and the saturday-evening flight to "trim-out" Bob's 86" Yak . The foamy freestyle was fun too, until Kevin decided to make it combat!

Can't wait for next year.

Matt
Well now you have to decide whether you want to be a Professional pilot or a Rockstar! If its the latter, keep the hair! Congratulations on your finish.
