Hehehehehe, oops! You know, nine times outta ten I move the CG back from the recommended mark. It usually ends up nose heavy for my style of flying right off the bat. I'm with you, I'm not far from it either, using the high tech finger tip method, but get it a bit closer and I'll go! |

Any thing past 160mm after the LE of the wing will make it very hard to trim for level flight.initiallly mine was at 163mm and it just wanted to climb and would.nt trim, so now I have it set at 140mm and it seems great right there.Maybe I ll bump the CG back a tad over time. But for now it s good and flys and lands great. Its a floater, yep I got lead under the hood. 10 1/2 ozs of it.But it still makes me wonder how much better it would be with a DA 150 :-) I am pretty embeded with my lay out the way I have it set up.I have seriously considered moving my rudder tray forward but I am to lazy and like to be able to see if and reach it for adjustments and what not.
All in all with the way the wings load and this plane lands it dose nt notice a few extra ozs.It a very stable flying plane ,I am satisfied with it. |

A little surgery today on a wing tube.......or how to get a Carf Edge 540 carbon fiber wing tube from a 42% Pilot wing tube. I have an 80+ tooth blade in the saw and let the blade do the cutting, then lightly sanded the cut edge to put a small bevel on the end. One note of caution...anybody cutting cured carbon fiber, you need to make sure there is an open space, or use a dust mask or both, and to clean up all of the dust (nasty stuff) after cutting. We're getting a little closer .

FYI. I was getting ready to load up today,( still had wings on)started loosening the wing nuts and the right front wing bolt started spinning in the wing. Of course I'm out of hysol, so I put some epoxy on the threaded part of the bolt inside the wing. Made me a little nervous. epoxied the other side. soon as it cures a little gonna do the rear as well. Glad I wasn't already at the field!

Snow, Holy Cow it got up to 88 here today!
Sounds good revy! Maidened mine today. No worries about CG being to far back. I Took off at 165mm back, could just barely tell she was tailheavy. very little trim needed. I'm still going to work on trying to get it neutral. I need to get a engine mount from blazing star though. When I started it for the 3rd flight I heard something that didn't sound right, checked it out and found a broken engine mount bolt. Yea a 1/4" bolt grade 8. too much flex in the stand offs I'm thinking. the plane is so rigid doesn't allow for any of that to be absorbed. There is no vibration at all in this plane. Yea prop, spinner and all balanced. flys great. can't wait to get it sorted out. stalled into what looked like a perfect elevator, barely dropped a wing once. easily corrected and came straight down. easy recovery. knife edge pulled to the gear but that is because of CG. flat spins easy, rollers are good, need to work on my timing haven't flown in a while Lands like a trainer. |
