Hey Vern, I attended on Saturday and I have to tell you that it was probably a blessing in disguise that it was poorly attended. I didn't get the idea that the people running the event had ever been to a huckfest before or knew how one was supposed to run. Being a first time event is no excuse either. The one held in apopka last year a week after joe nall was a much better run event, that was catered to the pilots and having fun. Not throwing stones at the venice guys, if they had put half as much effort in promoting it to the pilots here on flying giants and other forums as much as they promoted it locally to spectators, I think the results would have been different.

Here are the things I saw specifically wrong.
No lights for night flying
No mention of pilot prizes, raffle held on sunday instead of saturday which is almost always the main day of the event.
When I went to pay my landing fee, there was no organization, no one could tell me anything about raffles or if my landing fee included a lunch or pilots dinner which I thought was supposed to be standard fare for a huckfest.
This one was the strangest of all.....Saturday afternoon it looked like we were going to get a squall move through. There was nothing behind it on the radar. It took about 45 minutes to blow through. In that time everyone and I mean EVERYONE except Tony Greene and myself had left. No one from venice RC was there at all, just tony and I. I simply could not believe it. Here is the video
Venice Huckfest 2012 (12 min 24 sec)

you only have to watch the very beginning and the very ending I won't bore you with my pitiful flying.
This isn't bashing this is what happened, hopefully if they decide to do it again, they will at least pretend to care about promoting the event to pilots instead of spectators.

.......and you will LOVE soldering Dean's connectors. The 'couplers' are only necessary for the heavier gauge leads but they are 'butter'................too much heat sink from a Deans and 18 AWG and heavier stranded wire for a 20watt Weller pen. Gotta give you A LOT of credit for doing it with that gear...........a dedicated modeller!
Doug, those little adapters are cheating. I would have given my left nut for a bag of those last night.

I've been meaning to pick up one of those soldering guns. My little weller pencil does a great job, just this job was alittle too much for it

I have made it to EVERY HUCKFEST in the South East.....I did not attend this one for many reasons, the main one being my friend calling me and telling me not to waste my time or gas money cause he was there and these guys had no clue how to do a Huckfest......That and no NIGHT LIGHTS ......You must be crazy, best parts of a Huckfest happen at night.
