I'd like to know more about it too - I think "bosshoss" is checking one out. If it's a winner, might be time for me to do a motor upgrade on a plane. I have heard good reports about the DL-50 motor (after the first run of motors with some carb problems.) The 3M has the side carb that would be easier for me to deal with.

Thanks
Terry

A guy at our field has one in his Great Planes YAK and it runs and sounds very strong, I think it was only $499.00 complete.

1,33kg DA50
1,38kg DL50
1,8kg 3mm53... this can be a problem?

Re: What about 3mm TOC 53cc?

I have a 3MM 53 on my 30% Extra - four flights and so far, so good. Great performance without finishing the break in yet. I bought mine from Wild Hare R/C here in Texas to gain the local support. I understand that within the next year W/H will be the only authorized dealer - but I don't want to start any arguments if I misunderstood. W/H definately stands behind this engine as high quality and better performance than others in its class. As far as the weight difference between the DL or DA 50 - It's a comparison between two or three bearings, the 3MM having three. Without direct experience with the DL-50, the 3MM is supposed to offer less vibration with the three-bearing design. With stock mufflers and ignition, there is only about a four ounce weight difference. The 3MM also comes stock with an easy Walbro carburater, while the DL, if I understand correctly, comes with one from their own factory. This carb had some early production issues with a plugged high-needle jet. Made me want to avoid buying a used one, or an older version from anyone other than a factory dealer - for the service.

Just my 2 cents

Re: What about 3mm TOC 53cc?

ok! and about propeller? 23-8 is correct for this engine? real? For the weight I think I need +Pb (200gr weight) for balance my extra. If the power is real 5.5hp it doesn't have any problems... Now I've built exhaust for Supertigre 3250 and it 400gr of weight (alluminium) The weight of the only engine is about 1600gr.+exhaust 2000gr... With 3MM it will be extreme"

I have been running a 3mm 53 in my 30% Yak for little while now, I have about 3 gallons or so through it, and power is on par with my DA, and ZDZ. Right now I am getting about 6500 rpm's on a Xoar 23-8. So far my engine has run flawlessly and started easily.

Re: What about 3mm TOC 53cc?

This engine likes to pull, we have run 22-10, 23-8,23-10, and vess 22B and 23A depending on the plane it is on. It yanks my 17lb6oz Yak Prototype around with authority on a vess 22b. It will accelerate out of a hover. I do have some video of our 16lb Yak 54 but have been unable to upload the format. If you want I can e-mail it to you. It is Palm but will open in Real player and other viewers.
As stated earlier these are a quality product, and service and parts are available in the states. I carry all parts already for repairs and replacements (I hope tom is past the gasket stage) and can generally turn a engine in a day or two at my shop in Indy.

Re: What about 3mm TOC 53cc?

I tomorrow will buy 3mm TOC... I have decided Because it has three Bearings, its weight regarding DL-50 is not therefore heavy.
DA-50 has bearings on connecting rod. DL has not! 3mm has posterior drive shaft and connecting rod is to half of the drive shaft. this solution is more long-lasting and absent from the vibrations.
if mistake to think therefore you say it to me ! has you an address of 3mm company? in Italy I buy it for 370€ (500$) 3mm and DL as the same price... Bye!

Re: What about 3mm TOC 53cc?

This is my 3mm toc
Today I have gone to the field flight and I run this engine on the ground. 6-7 pull the propeller and it start. it produces a strong noise with high tones because the exhaust has a large tube for exit gas it does not have bulkheads. this engine for hour run the menz22x10 from 1400' to 6400'. In these days I go to the field for end the breakin I will make to know the performances. Bye!!
