i raced a guy with a 17# sd yak with a DA50 and the same prop.
we lined up side by side, took off side by side pulled straight up at the same time and poured on the coal. by the time we got to about 150 feet i had about a 40 foot lead and it just kept pulling on him. (he dident like me very much after that)
i think also some people here will not like you either after your post lol. DLE is really powerfull engine.

Re: DLE 55 Thrust

I'm using it in a 50cc aeroworks edge 540, weighs just over 16lbs. using a xoar 22-8, pull out of hover with authority and keeps goin. I have yet to experiment with props as it is a new motor, but I think I may go with the xoar 23-3d or the vess 23a. what do you guys think?

Re: DLE 55 Thrust

As this is my first gasser, I'm not going to say the TBM prop sucks. I like the way the plane flies now. After I get a few gallons of gas through it, I'll probably change to a new prop, make and size yet to be determined. Unfortunately, these bigger props aren't like the small glow engines where you can keep a stock of 4-5 different props and give them a try to see what fits your personal style best.

I have a DLE 55 in a Hangar 9 CAP 27%. First test flight last week and if this engine gets any stronger, OH WOW! Have a 22X8 Xoar prop on nose and it is a screamer. Very very happy with setup. Oh, weighs in around 18lbs.

Put a Vess 23A on there. It's a little noisey but you'll love the thrust and slowing on down lines. That TBM prop is loading your engine too much.

Oh, have an Xoar 22 X 8 for break in. Will be moving to the 23 X 8 next. Purchased from Valley View.

I had a xoar 23 x 8 on my DL50 and it was my favorite 3D prop. It yanked my 88" WH edge around like a rag doll.Oh and with the canister it weighed 17.5 pounds.

Re: DLE 55 Thrust

I fly an AirWild Edge 540, DLE55, skywriter smoke system. All up weight with no fuel or smoke is 16 lbs 5 1/4 oz. Started with a TBM (trash) then under the advice of a friend bought a PT model carbon prop which was very nice. Then I decided to experiment with a few as I was amazed at what a difference just a prop could make. In the last few months I have tried the VOX 23x8, the NX 23x?, the xoar 23x8, and the Vess 23a and 22b. Without a doubt my favorite is the Vess 23a with the VOX in a really close second. I will warn you though that both can get a little loud...

Al,

I am also using the Vess 23A on my DLE-55 w/canister. I starter with 22A but it was running up at 7500rpm. The 23A is down to 7350 and it is on the breakin oil at 32:1. Cant wait till it is broken in.

I have it in a Yak 54 18lbs and it has silly power. Very good speed control and handles the wind just fine. Verticals at 3/4 throttle and on my fish scale thrust gauge right at 31lbs. thrust. Very respectable for a new engine. Now to see if it becomes as reliable as my older DL50.

Smooth FLying...

Hah ! Yeah I scratch my head trying to figure out how such a cheap engine can produce so much power !

Mine is the DL 50cc. The Vess 23A is the best puller out of the five different props I have tried. What really got me though was how well the Vess 23B does on vertical.

I don't hover so I can't comment on a rapid pull out but out of the three Vess props the 23 inchers both did better than the 22B I tried. The 23B is way quieter if that counts for anything. The 23A spools up faster than the other two.

Oh, the plane is a Yak with 87" wing and weighed 16lbs before I added a little. Maybe 16.5 now.

thats exactly what my friend is doing....scratching his head and saying "WTF 4 airplanes crash, 4 dead sticks with my DA, WTF is happening....BTW DA alwasys says "nothing wrong with your engine"".

Zoomer, i do hover and i can say i just hit middle stick travel and the Extra goes up like a rocket. with a 22x8 Xoar.

I have never owned a DA or any other gas engine for that matter. All I can say is for the money it has gotten my attention and allowed me to ramp up two 50cc size planes for a reasonable cost.
My numbers are subjective as I am using a "fish scale" but i gives me a base line for comparision on all my other projects.

Your milage may vary...
