3W 80cc VS DA 50cc

Hey guys I dont want to start a fight here I just want to know wich is the best engine for a lanier extra 330 that Im going to buy soon, there is the option of the 3w 80 or the da 50, I think both are good options, the manual ask for 50 - 80cc engines, just to make you know I fly at 5000 feet above sea level, please help me.

Please just help me on those two engines, no more. Thanks

If you are at 5000' elevation, I say definitely the 80. Also, Lanier is not known for building light planes, so a little extra oomfph can't hurt.

80cc too much. ZDZ 60....might be a better choice. Just a thought.

ZDZ 60 weighs the same amount as the Evolution 58 and has nowhere near the same power.
Being that I fly at altitude, I can tell you that, at 16 pounds, vertical performance with a DA and stock or slimline pitts is mediocre, at best. It will pull out of a hover on the deck, but will not accelerate...we're talking a 2-3 mph climbout. With that said, the DA would not be enough for you, IMO. However, the 80 is way too heavy and too powerful. I would consider the 58 - they claim 6900 on a 24X10. That's more than I got on a 23X8 with my DA and stock Muffler!

I think that there are alot better engines than the 80 and the 50 for 5000' elevation flyin.

dont know what engine you can get in mehico but theres better engines, like a 75cc or sometin.

the 58 would be best. It is the best, you would be wasting your time trying to figur out a better option cuz there isnt cuz 58's the best.

Hey I was thinking on the zdz80, is lighter than the 3w 80, or zdz60, I can get every engine that you can get there because I will buy it at chiefaircraft. I like the da50 because is light but my elevation is a problem.

co you have first hand experience with this engine? If so lets hear experiences with it. I'm curious as to how it really performs.

Benji....here's the dillema I see with your situation. Seems like any other engine will weigh in at 1/2 to a full pound or more heavier. Best bang for your buck is the 3W80i. Can't beat the price. I think it would yank the hell out of that plane, even at your elevation. I've got a ZDZ 80 Super I'm putting on a 33% AM Yak. Estimated weight is 22 lbs and I'm afrad it's too much power.

I think you could get away with a 80cc engine....but be sure that you know how to use that left stick. I think with the wing area being 1447 sq"....it can take the extra weight. You need to decide how much money comes into play along with weight. The 3W is cheaper, but a bit heavier. If you thinking ZDZ 80 I would go with the old version....I think the Super would be too much.

One more scenario. 50cc on a full pipe......keep the weight off but it'll give that engine a bit more kick.

If you can get any engine, the 58 would be your best bet, and Chief sells them.

Hey neogenesis Im with you I think the best option is the 3w 80, is the new one, great power, I will have to see if it fit in the plane, first of all I will buy the plane then the engine, and I will get it soon.

Re: 3W 80cc VS DA 50cc

I have a 30% Aviation models yak with a Evolution 58, I have abt 2 gallons thru it and even on day one it was easy to start and has tons of power. I had a zdz 50 on the yak before and it was ok, but the 58 is an absolute monster.
