short exhaust?

Just finished cutting the cowl. Installed the dle 55ra, only to discover this situation. My feel is that i wont have any issues. Would appreciate your advise before i start cutting more of the cowl. Clearance between the end of the exhaust pipe and exit base of cowl is 3 mm. As far as extensions for the muffler??? cannot seem to find any in this size of the dle 55ra (silicone extensions)

thanks

What is the OD of your muffler pipe?
Da150 is 1-1/4" and 3w150 is 1-1/2"
I used copper sink drain pipes that are chromed. . I cut 4 slots at the top and clamped them to the pipes. I love using them.. they work perfect.
Another fiend used and old folding chair aluminum leg.. that fit his exhaust OD perfectly.

I wouldn't leave it the way you currently have it.
Good luck...

Looks really good.
I did that to mine. To make my nails more quickly identifiable, I put red paint on the heads of one size and black paint on the heads of the other size. Also, I looped/tied a short length of string around the round part of each "R" clip. The string helps me find them when dropped and I usually can remove the clips from the nails by pulling on the strings.

Hey guys I just maidened my 107 decathlon. I have never flown a decathlon before. even on the slightest rudder input as I fly the wing tip drops severely whichever direction input I give it. even as much as 20% rudder to aileron mix has not really helped.

Is this just a decathlon thing? any suggestions?

Thanks!

They do have very sensitive rudders.
You need very little rudder input to fly a coordinated turn.
I would increase your rudder expo.
You will need more rudder to hold knife edge or slip to land so don't take away your throw.

Yepp, Mike is absolutely right!

This seems to be a Decathlon thing; i have flown the 157" Fliegerland Decathlon some years ago and atm the small 107" Pilot RC Decathlon and also they behave like this. So i applied a ot lot of Expo (up to 60% in "have fun" flight mode) to the rudder setup.

I have 3 Flight modes for start/ land, towing and "juast have fun" :-) , each needed different rudder movement and a lot of expo settings like on a yak or extra...

Best regards from Germany...

Frank

4 Aileron + 2 flap + 2 rudder + 2 elevator + throttle + kill switch + smoke = 13 with futaba 12FG not possible.
But then I chose to use a simple setup where I duplicate channels in powerbox
The servos of the spektrum are very noisy did not know that
You are missing the installation of servos for ruder and elevator, running the engine and installation of the firewall.
More news tomorrow !

VERY NICE, PLEASE POST MORE PHOTOS

Thanks guys for the heads up on rudder, its definitely something different to fly!

On the CG location....where do you feel it flys and lands best? Mine flys good, a VERY slight drop when inverted, but porpoises badly when I am attempting to touch down......real bouncy on landing does not seem to want to settle on the runway.

Thanks!

Very slight nose drop in 45° up line is perfect fir me.
Landings-Gotta slow it down.
it'll land at a crawl if you want it too.
Been there...I've got prob 250-300 flights on my 40%.

I´m done

Hey guy´s
I learned one thing: The most expensive on a big model plane like this isn´t the kit nor the motor or the elektronik.
No, its the new car you need to bring it to the field!
You are lucky guy´s with big cars or tailers, house or ranch, a lot of space.
But i live in Germany and everything is smaller here. (Well not realy EVERYTHING but thats a diffrent story) So this is my new way of transporting my Decathlon. Ford Mondeo Turnier, one of the biggest station waggon you can find. But the Decathlon hardly fits, ITS A MONSTER!
But it fit´s and no body can stop me now.
Exept for the weather.Round about 8 degrees celsius an verry stormy over the past weeks and it seems like it get´s even worth in the next weeks.
Maybe the maiden flight wont be before next year.
Please take a look at the photos from the side of the plane:
The first one (the sharper one) is with no fuel on bord and the blurry one is with full tank (ca.1,5 ltr).
Plane hooked up at the marked CG. Seems slightly nose heavy but for the first flight it looks o.k. for me.
What do you think?
Please excuse the bad quality of the pictures the where shot with a mobile only.
Best regards
Matthias
