On the templates, I have heard that a two-pc (top and bottom) template is best, but it seems many people are using a single template like you have. Any thoughts??

I cut 2 tapered wings to try out the setup and I thought an upper and a lower template would be best too. But I did get very good results ,even for my first cut using just one template and changing the counterweights for the bow. I now have the weights so I just have to changeout 1 weight to have downward or upward pressure on the wire. I think one will be fine. I'm cutting the stabs first to get a little more time on the setup before doing the wings. Yes the nylon just serves as an insulator. I made up a 4foot and a 6 foot bow. I just change out the wire and back brace.

I know a guy at our field milled his gear out and it made it very weak. What was shipping like from Graphtech?

Also got the tail wheel from them, it is really sweet: http://graphtechrcshop.com/product.s...8&categoryId=3

Next time I may try the TNT milled landing gear that is nearly the same weight as the carbon. Only reason would be it may not be as firm as the carbon. I saw these at their booth at the Nall last year and they looked really nice: http://www.tntlandinggear.com/choice_cut.htm

I planned on mounting my canopy shell tomorrow, but too bad.....60 degrees and 9mph wind! I'm skipping work and going flying

If you mill it through or mill it too thin it gets weak. Carbon may be a better option if you do harrier landings, etc.

Did not hear anything all day so I texted AT and he said he was going to cut me some new wings and send them out tomorrow. Guess I'll work on the rudder and put some CAD time in on my scratch build project so I can do the wings and elevators at the same time.

No major reports today, had unexpected company this weekend, so only finished my rudder caps, cut and glued on the stab. Going to try to cut the angles on the hinge surfaces on the table saw or bandsaw tomorrow.

Looking really good!

I still have not gotten a hold of anyone...

The last few days I have went into my garage and looked at the plane...walked around in circles a few times and then walked out. I did manage to get the covering ordered last week so I can start on some parts while I wait.

I went to an indoor funfly in Omaha yesterday with some of the "FBI" guys...I am not afraid to admit...I suck at flying indoors.

Sorry to hear that, are you still waiting for that stab tube and canopy?

I wish we could get an indoor fun-fly started here, but good spaces are limited and there are only a few of us with indoor planes.

Did anyone get a response from AT yet? Do you know if Matt cut our new foam arts yet?

Yep stab tube and canopy.

I don't really like flying indoors all that much...our club has a biweekly indoor flying night but the place is too small and gets crowded. I suppose if I had a larger building to fly in and got some practice I would enjoy it more.

With the disruption of the holidays and work, this build is going at a snails pace!! I did get my canopy installed, which came out awesome for my first time building one like that. I was also a little concerned about the fillets next to the rudder, but I got started and it only took me about 20 minutes. I left a small gap at the top and picked up some latex foam sealant so I can fill the space to keep it from being so fragile.

Wife's birthday tomorrow so yet another day of no building ahead. However I see a few days after that with some free time

Since I am waiting for wings I will most likely spend some CAD time working on my plans for my next build. May also laser some test parts out of scraps to get an idea of the front structure. Getting excited for that build
