The glider pilot can also use just a little air brake to keep the line tight. 1500ft release height is pretty good. Not sure what we are releasing at as we have not installed the alt logger in the tug or glider(s) but I would estimate it to be around the 1500ft - 2000ft mark.

I pulled the trigger! Our Porter tug will be here in about three weeks. Now we need to decide on an engine!

That should be an awesome setup with power for very large gliders. I'm turning green over here.

Looks like a good buy.

How wide is the cowl on the porter? The turbo porters have a long skinny nose, so the cylinder heads may stick out the side of the cowl.

We have already accepted the very real possibility that we may not be able to use the cowl at all. Scale and realism are not our main objective here anyway. Just looking for a all around good platform for towing. We'll just have to wait till both the airframe and engine arrive(within the next two weeks).

Cool!

I'm one of three owners on a 25% wilga with a DA100 (less powerfull than the 3W) that tows up to 50% gliders with 9 meters of wing and 35 kg (70 lbs?) weight. Your tug will no longer be the limit!

I'm looking at one of these for a tug. There are currently 2 of them being used by the SKSS guys, both are electric powered. Only downside is the cost of postage from Canada to Australia.
