My name is Dean Lampron and here I will be doing my first build thread on the new improved PAU 42% Extra 300sp so bare with me. This will be my IMAC plane for the upcoming 2014 season. First off this plane has a few new improvements compared to the earlier version. A few mods that are on this new plane is a split cowl to fit the 4 cylinder motors a little easier. The wings have also been enforced with carbon spars. The fuselage is now 4" inches longer to help tracking and better overall flight performance. PAU has also included an all carbon fiber tail wheel system that is much lighter than the original Haig Style. If anyone has any question feel free to jump in and ask or pm me.

The planes fit and finish is top notch the split cowl has awesome botton head screw made here in the USA. Looking forward to getting mine in the air again......as soon as the "air" does not hurt your face and make your fingers numb

I like the split cowl on the newer ones, makes cutting the cowl much much easier!! I did get an upgraded set of wings for my old version plane that I need to install servo in. I'll get to that soon.
Congrats on the new plane

The 30% did not: smaller planes are not subject to the same stresses, and there has not been an instance of any wing issue that did not involve a ground strike.

So today I started to hing and the elevators and also gap seal them. I used scotch heavy duty packaging tape, being clear it is very hard to see and also stays on a lot longer than covering. As you can see in the picture the elevators have more than enough throw. I also did a few extra things to the cowl that are unnecessary, but I do them to help make myself feel better about them. First off as seen in the pictures I put a fillet of micro balloons and epoxy around each blind nut that is located on the bottom half of the cowl just to make sure they they will never pop out with the vibrations. Second I took the same tape I used to gap seal the hinges and went around where the top half meets the bottom half. I did this just so the rubbing would be cut down and also any vibration noise if there is any. The motor is on for good and I re wrapped the headers. The are 90mm drop and will be 14" long. They have been cut from a friend and will make it up in coupler length. The motor needed to be stood out just by around 7mm I use the evolution gas standoffs. There was no trimming needed to fit the cylinder that sits farther back. I have not touched the wings but will get to that after I get the rest of the servos in the plane. A few changes from the original kit will be a fiji bottle for the gas tank and also not mounted on the floor in front of the tube, I will be making a tank mount around the tube so the tank is exactly on the cg location.

I will take my time but the biggest time consuming will be learning and setting up the jeti radio and the central box system. I have to do that in this plane and as well in my 100cc extra. Ill be slowing down because I need servo arms and stuff from DA. Tom are you planing on getting the big green extra for this year?

I can't get it this year. Some things happened and It's out of the budget for this year. Won't make it to Joe Nall either but I'll be glued to the computer looking to see how you guys are doing.

Congrats on the Jeti Sponsorship. From what I've seen it's a real nice system.

Thank you Tom! I love it so far! The radio fits great in my hands and nothing beats the gimbals. That's to bad you can't make it to the Joe Nall, maybe I'll see you at the IMAC nationals?
