DLE angled muffler, why?

why is DLE slanting/angling the forward side of their mufflers these days?

To fit in tighter cowlings. That is what is normally referred to as a compact muffler.

ah yes - the tapered exhaust with less oil syndrome. I think it may have something to do with the way the waves bounce around inside the muffler, that creates a better spread of oil in the muffler which in turn means less oil is needed to keep the muffler lubricated - coupled to the fact that the muffler is also now a lower volume.

That same wave length change caused by the waves bouncing off the angled front (or back - depending on which direction you mount the Exhaust) causes a much smother note as some of the waves are still exiting when the exhaust port is closed.

Another reason for the angle is they use a little less material to make each exhaust, this makes them cheaper and lighter.

And of course - the reply from J-Tec (who do know a heck of a lot about exhausts seeing as it is a major part of their business) is actually very correct

Don't forget it puts less stress on the Muffler Bearings so they wont need to be replaced as often.

That's ridiculous. Muffler bearings are sealed and don't depend on the engine oil. Geez.
