I am currently looking into changing the suspension... just cant seem to locate any decent gear to mount and retain the springs in the frames I designed... I am toying with the idea of using coil over shock absorbers... see attached photo... only detraction will be a long mounting bracket coming off the bottom of my trailing arm... will post a screen shot from the model when I can...

Hey Tim, Nice to see you getting back into it.

Just check the regulations over there since I am nearly certain that stub axles are not allowed (anymore) on home-built (self assessed) trailers here in QLD. Of course if yuo can get a trailer manufacturer (read: licensed engineer) to sign off on it then I am sure QLD transport (or the WA equivelent) would be ok with it.

Well I have worked up some models for the coil over oil shock suspension idea... the lower bracket hangs down a fair way but still has about 120mm clearance to the roadway so its leagal in that sense (100mm min. ground clearance req.) and its not an offroad trailer so I am not concerned about the ground clearance at this stage...
I will just go and get all my plates etc all water jet cut so all I have to do is weld them in... liking that idea.. hate carving out plates with the grinder...
I really like the adjustable coil over concept because it will give me a fair bit of adjustablitiy in ride height and suspension tuning.... plus a bit of bling never goes astray!!
see attached photos..

Well we finally have movement here... I have just ordered all of the steel and the tricky parts that are to be cut from plate have just just been ordered from a local Laser Cutting business.. Fabrication should commence this weekend!!

I have also found an Australian source for the Coil overs at a reasonable price... see link below to the shocks I will be ordering next week...

Well I got most of the steel cut for the trailer build this weekend... just have the doors and a few members for the upper framing left to cut out next weekend..
Managed to get the main chasis rails all setup, leveled and tacked down to the building frames.. will post a photo of them tomorrow night when I have a chance to return my garage to a reasonably ordered state.
Progress is a good thing!! looking forward to getting into the welding!!

All the laser cut parts and the suspension bushes turned up yesterday!!

The laser cut parts are every bit that I had hoped they would be... all came out perfect and very accurate.. Total Laser Cutting Services here in Perth.. would recommend these guys any time!!

I was a little worried about the suspension bushes being the right size to fit the tube I was able to get... all the math and dimension added up... but was still a little nervous.. but they turned out perfect aswell!! very happy little chappy!!!

Looking forward to getting stuck in on the weekend!!

I had a very productive weekend!! I got all of the steel cut and cleaned up then proceeded to fabricating.

I managed to get most of the chassis framed up with the exception of the more fiddly bits... but its definfately coming along!!

All of the flooring material turned up this morning aswell!! plenty of supplies on the ground so no excuses any more! I am expecting the coil overs to turn up today or tomorrow aswell! Exciting times!!!

Thanks for the visit Bill!!!
