Re: How to perform Rollingharrier

How I do the rollingharrier is like this for (instance). Pin the ailerons to the right then developed a smooth rhythm by moving the rudder left to right synchronized with moving the elevator up and down. You will also need to work the throttle as needed to keep the nose of the plane in a high alpha attitude and also to control the rate of role.
Timing is key.
If you learn to do a rolling circle first than the rollingharrier will be easier to preform in my opinion.

Depends if you roll left or right!!!!
Left rollers - Pin and hold left aileron until plane is knife edge and then add right rudder, plane rolls inverted then add down elevator, plane rolls into the opposite kife edge the you add left rudder, plane rolls up right add up elevator.

Correct inputs for right rollers.

You need to add throttle to the mix and just the right amount of each input to keep your plane stalled and to change or keep your heading.

I don't think you can do a RH without using a simulator. If you play it safe by flying way high its tough to see whats going on. Sims really help your head get around the movements whilst videos are all well and good for showing how it looks like when done correctly, timing and practice is the real key. A sim wont teach you everything though but it is a very good way to start the basics. One thing that a sim wont show is the roll speed increases as you head into wind so you have to let off some aileron input or try to keep up with the roll which can be tough. The mode you use can make a difference in how easy you pick it up. I fly Mode 1 (obviously) so for me all I need to do is rotate the left stick in a circle at the right time whilst my right hand does all the throttle and aileron adjustments if I'm doing a circle. If your doing a straight line then there's slightly less rudder input needed. Guys that fly mode 2 (spits) well they look like they have there work cut out to me......but I cant even fly a trainer in mode 2 without crashing hehehe.

Re: How to perform Rollingharrier

I think it can really help alot to master the slow roll and get your cordination going. Then do them the other way and figure out what your inputs are. Then it is all a matter of practice. And then when you start to do some faster rollers, the stick movments should come alot easyer. But again, it is not somthing to master in one day. It takes time and practice. - and patence! - Hope this helps and good luck

PS: Yes the Sim helps a lot!

Re: How to perform Rollingharrier

I gotta say.... you need to get the rythem down.... "Trust your Rythem".... for sure....

so you gotta have a plane that rolls consistantly.... if the cadence is changine faster and slower.... it is harder to establish the rythem (well.. as there isn't a rythem!! lol)

If you do very deep AOA Harrier Rolls, the rate is slower and easier to keep up with....

FASST forward to about 2 minutes in this vid....

Slower = easier!! lol

Now wrangle some planes from your dad's collection and come to the field and fly them!

The 260 or Katana should do, no PT's or Colt's!
