Bird actually flew WONDERFUL handled wind well
Third flight got it back on the ground in one piece after a missed approach becase of wind
Almost coasted to a stop and fit a GROUND SQUIRREL hole
Broke prop and pride

I hear you on flying a maiden alone but after chopping my arm with a prop a few years ago while I was alone stopped that. I almost left the plane running and drove to the hospital. Be careful.

For a very similar reason to David's I don't fly alone anymore. I use to think it was smart having the field to myself until an APC almost removed the big finger from my right hand. Thank goodness there was a medical facility nearby.

1+ you didn't break a prop, you broke a paint stirrer.

Mine was a 22" prop and left a gash and severe bruising. I happened to have a large fast food drink cup full of ice in my truck. It was an great decision to chill the injury with the ice while I thought about my next move. After all, my plane was still idling and would have to be disassembled . The ice idea worked so well I decided to fly while I squeezed the ice cup between the injury and my chest.

Having said that, I was lucky and will not fly again by myself.

Thanks for the comments and the VERY WELL respecteted and well deserved safety
comments/concerns.
I/ve had more than my share of accidents as a mechanic and lost one digit as a youth
in a farm accident.
Not planning on losing any more and getting close to retirement don't want the missus
putting a stop to a great hobby that I waited a long time to enjoy.
I operate under Think first then DO
Allways think every time I start the engine
(Would I reach under the lawn mower and grab the blade to start it)
Thanks again
Mike

Thanks for the prop offer but I'm covered
Just for info the one that the varment got was an 18-8, but the bird seems to like the 20-6
that I replaced it with.
Thanks again
