I didn't do a build thread... not much to "build"... so here's a picture. I think I need to put just a little down trim in the motor... I'll do that when I dry it out.

Hello, I got this plane with a DA70 on two 40 canisters. Planing on putting smoke in it.
You guys that are using this engine, where do you end up placing your lipo (RX batt).

How in the H-E-double-hockey-sticks did you fit 2 canisters in that tunnel? I'm afraid you are in a class all by yourself!

As for balance... loop some string around the wing tube on both sides, then put the wings and canopy on and check the balance. I've found that for me, if the tail hangs slightly down with the string supporting the wingtube, it flies and lands very well. That would put the CG somewhere just behind the tube.

With your setup, everyone else's battery placement would be useless... but I would think you'll need to shift the batteries towards the back of the canopy.

Wow, that's a top notch setup, Rate1..

The cg is 1/4" behind the tube. I have a DA-85 and a large Proflow and I have my batteries around the middle of the fuel tank and the cg is great. I will now cut plywood plates and glue them in place for a better installation of the batteries.

DA Australia helped me out on this one, dremel some material out on the front former. There is not structrual weakening by doing so. Al thought still tight fit but I just manage to squeeze those canisters in there.

Looks great... thanks for sharing. What brand canisters did you use?

Ok, thanks. That is what I was hoping to hear. I have some Alu-text light ply board from Krill that I'm placing on top of the balsa for strenght, looks, but also to hide all those cabels. Am hoping that placing the lipo on the aft portion underneath canopy. Also will have a Emoctech smoke pump which can help to counter balance getting the battery where I want em.

I think it is MTV 40. A bit unsure as this is my first gas plane and sitting at a hotel for the moment.

I can see that you also have the Fromenco Cricket/Dc-Up in this plane. Cool little bling thing.

How are you mounting your throttle servo for the 70? Clean build by the way. I love it when people split their cowls, it's too much for me though.

Also, where's a good place to get a decent CF Spinner?

Servo is mounted in the pre-cut mount bottom of engine box. Fit perfect.

There is a lot of things being the first for me with this build. Being a gas engine, split cowl, silver solding, cutting spinner and a CF spinner on top of that. Making duct for air intake, molding these in fiberglass... All this is new to me. Good fun, excellent how to here at FG. My next model is going to be even cleaner and faster build as I now have learned how to. Spent some time on research here at FG.

I ordered my CF spinner from PAU, No Limitz Spinner. In my point of view the best Ultimate style there is out there. Excellent quality. Also, PAU are among the best to deal with. He is a friendly helpfull guy getting me this spiner all the way to Sweden.

Split cowls are easier than you think... there are a few good threads on here about it, and it's actually easier and faster to do it than it is to read it... Give it a try!

Maybe! I'll look back at Terry's thread again.

I'm finally back to finishing this plane. I've spent way too long building it. Too occupied w/ school and college apps.

Thanks! So did you drill through the firewall for the linkage?

No, servo is mounted up side down hanging out underneath the engine box.
Also I was concerned about not reaching the throttle arm, but the supplied 3mm ball link on straight push rod clear the fire wall with good margin.
