Re: DA-50 Exploded!!!!!!!!

he said his connecting rod was shot and his piston. Probobly wasnt bad bolts or da's fault at all. Sounds more like it got hot and siezed and blew off your jug. If the cylinder bolts fail wouldnt it just blow the jug off.

Re: DA-50 Exploded!!!!!!!!

Well most of these guys are running pitts mufflers so i dont think the jug would blow off the motor.

"get the point"

im sure if anybody had any common sence they would realize that if the jug did blow off the motor the muffler would stop it. there for causing damage to the piston and rod from the jug bouncing around.

Re: DA-50 Exploded!!!!!!!!

youd be able to tell the difference between a piston that had a seizure, a partial seizure or just had some nicks and dents from banging around.

The strap that you use to support the muffler. which is bolted to the motor.

I just noticed in the picture his is bolted to the head the one i had was bolted to the motor standoff.

I guess it depends on what muffler you use.

Re: DA-50 Exploded!!!!!!!!

The reason why they replaced the piston is because a chip broke out of the piston skirt when it hit the connecting rod.

The cylinder twisted when it came off and the pitts muffler hit the cowl and stoped it.

Re: DA-50 Exploded!!!!!!!!

guys we can throw this issue around a hundred times and blame what ever - Da will stand up to almost anything related to warranty that is for sure and thats almost the bottom line - this said, its still interesting and as my own Da50 had bearing, rod and piston problems before maybe they need to look into this - a little over stressed maybe - keep us posted and lets stay cirkus style!!

If there is no bad vertical scarring Id say the bolts are giving out.

Re: DA-50 Exploded!!!!!!!!

I'm kinda late on this thread but, Me and one of my budys had the same thing happen it was on my 100 and his 100 I had the head bolts break off on one head and one break off on the other. Then my bud just had his head fall off like you did.

But what got me is ( now don't get me wrong here I love DA and there service but) they said that a DA-100 will keep running even if it lost a cylinder, and they were trying to tell me it was not the motor it was me and I was going to have to pay for the repair. Now I shouldn't be arguing with the maker of the product but I know for a FACT that there is no way that, that can happen when the head comes off there will be zero crankcase preaser to make the fuel pump work on their carbs. Also there will be no crank case preaser to be able to force the air fuel mixture into the cylinder.

Re: DA-50 Exploded!!!!!!!!

motor keep running, thats rediculous.

My whole piston assembly was all shot up because the engine was running at like 4000 rpm when the whole head blew off. The inertia of the prop spinning made the piston connecting rod assembly bang around on the sides of the crankcase.

What I dont get is that the engine ran perfect, there was no way you could hear or tell any difference in sound or performance.

DA survice this and DA survice that........ so what if they have great survice replacing engines, any real company should if they have a problem like this..... DA wont replace my $600 airplane that was totaled because of the engine.

Re: DA-50 Exploded!!!!!!!!

Why can't DA change the aluminum head bolts to steel bolts and close this issue?
