Quick question for anyone running a DLE-111 and stock muffs. Do you prefer rudder servo in the tray or in the tail? I have a 7980 I'll be running and just don't want to monkey with it too much. Thanks!

I have my rudder servo in the tail and am running a DA100L. It balances great and flies beautifully.

I noticed on 3DHS site they claim you could run a single servo on each aileron for this plane.....I'm curious if anyone has ????

The one servo option was for people trying to achieve an extremely light setup using a DA85. Of course high speed stuff is out of the question.

First, I would like to thank everyone for the wealth of information in this thread.

I just purchased my third Extra from 3DHS, a 103" 330 SC. I have a 57", and a 72", both setup as electric and I love them both.

I have heard several folks have setup the 103" with Electric and would love to get some setup advice. I have a Castle ICE2 HV 160 ESC. I have a spectrum DX8 transmitter. The rest of the equipment will need to be procured for this project.

Any thoughts and experience would be greatly appeciated.

I have been using the PhoenixRC v4.0 flight Simm. I take my transmitter on the road with me when I am on trips and try to practice while away from home.

Does anyone know of any good setups or aircraft downloads to emulate any of the 3DHS Extras or other 3DHS aircraft?

Thanks, Dave

Combine that hv160 with a Hacker Q80-6L and falcon 27x10 prop and you will be happy.

Thank you for the quick reply Joe. The video is amazing. I have also watched your video with the 103" 330 SC on Gas. Can you compare the flight characteristics of your Electric setup .vs your Gas setup. Is there a lot of difference in the way they fly. Are specific tricks easier one the Electric vs. Gas?

On your Electric 103? Did you use eight HS-7955TG servos? How were the rudder servo(s) setup? Pull Pull or in the Tail?

What flight batteries do you fly with and what kind of flight time do you experience?

Thanks again for all your support.

Dave

This electric setup comes out a little heavier than a gas setup would. I don't own a scale so this speaking from flight characteristics. Both setups feel very light in the air. The electric doesn't have near the power that the DA120 has, but you can see in the video that the electric setup definitely isn't lacking at all. The electric setup has a much slower throttle response so getting really low during rollers and such is a little trickier.

I used futaba BLS157 all around on this airframe. I used hitec 7955 for 2 years and thought they were good servos until I tried the BLS157. Now I can't go back and use the hitecs, its just a disappointment. I am using one bls157 on the rudder in the pull pull configuration. Balance came out perfect.

I use 4x Sky Lipo 6s 5000mah 40c packs and I get 4:30 flight times with 30% left in the packs.

With a falcon 27x10, it pulling 158amps and right around 7500 watts.

Another major concern is heat build up when it comes to electric setups. Let me state that both the ESC and the motor remain within safe operating specs. during operation. With that being said, I went ahead and decided to try and drop the temps even more to help make the equipment last longer. The fan on the ESC dropped its temperature by about 30 degrees. The fan under the motor keeps the temps from rising after I land. Electric motors tend to build up tons of heat right after you land, this fan keeps that from happening. The motor comes down around 130 degrees and never rises. Before the fan, it would rise about 25 degrees.

The fans are 12v and run off of the balance taps of the main packs. When I land, I just unplug the main packs and leave the balance taps hooked up until everything is cooled down.
