Tell me about your Rx power set ups!

Hi Guys,
Been flying a 20cc for the past year, on a single 3s 1500Mah pack with a castle BEC pro...

I'm currently working on a 35cc Yak 54, running 6 align DS610 servos, just wondering what you guys would recommend for a power set up? will one pack be enough for Rx and ignition? and what size is sensible?

If anyone could post details of their set up would be very grateful.

Best regards and thanks in advance....

first, welcome to larger scale...second, there are a hundred ways to set up your airplane, and all will work. you can run a single pack, a single pack for the receiver and another for the ignition, or two packs for the receiver and one for the ignition, or a Tech Aero IBEC which eliminates the need for a separate ignition pack. If it was my airplane I would run a single pack and use a Tech Aero IBEC but others may differ......have fun regardless of your approach.

the 610s work fine with a LIFE pack, no regulator needed.

As above, but I'd suggest you go LiFe (6.6v) and not use the BEC.

Two 2550mah 2s packs, and a Tech Aero IBEC is the ticket!

2 x 2600 Li-Ion packs feeding the Rx (2 packs gives some redundancy)
TA IBEC off a switchable port on the Rx (eg. gear port)

These days the trend is to run a power box on .049 size models and above.

If you want to power the system with A123 batteries go with 2 1100mah packs. I flew my 50cc yak on those two batteries for a few years with plenty of flight time and not the weight penalty of having 2 2300-2500mah packs. Or if like to use a regulator 2 2600mah Fromeco li-ion packs with a fromeco regulator.

I'm guilty of always recommending one. They are great for a myriad of reasons.
Although I didn't this time. But I prolly would if I were in his shoes building one lol

And the smaller A123's would be better. My post auto corrected about 80 times.

As other's have said, on my 35cc plane I run two 1450mah Life batteries with a Tech Aero IBEC to feed the ignition. I use two failsafe switches as well, but a nicer solution would be a powersafe receiver...then you get some of the advantages of a power box like battery balancing without the added weight and complication, plus no physical switches on the plane at all.

3 Cell packs on BEC works great for me. Constant power. I set it at 8volts.

Explain to me how a power expander is complicated? Fairly sure the power safe receivers still use a failsafe soft switch....?

A switch is not needed on a power safe reciever. You can use a pin flag switch or just a JR bind plug Into a connector harness. Basicly for the reciever to turn on, the switch circuit needs to be open.

A power safe receiver basically is a power expander. It tends to be more compact than many (most?) power expanders and fully integrates the receivers without any additional connections between the receiver and servos. I assume those are the reasons people often consider it "less complicated".

Personally, for up to a 50cc airplane, I find a regular receiver and a single A123 battery, about 2500mah in capacity with a Tech-Aero IBEC to be completely adequate. If you want redundant receiver packs, a couple of 1500mah packs should be adequate for about 7 or 8 flights before recharging.

Id follow the trend. 2 a123 batteries and an IBEC. Preferably a power save reciever but not necessary. I would go with 1100-1500 mah packs though instead of bigger, but that's only if every single ounce matters to you.
