Lawn Darted... New Airframe Suggestions PLEASE!
Hi Guys,
Thanks for reading.. Really hoping I can get some advice from the group. I've been flying for 10+ years but just in the last 2 started to learn/work on some 3D maneuvers.. My practice plane is a Multplex Parkmaster Pro (Foam) For at the field I WAS flying a U-can-Do 90 size..until yesterday... Was working on a knife edge, (canopy facing away side) didn't realize she stated to roll and... the rest is history! SO here is why I'm seeking advice from all you smart fells! I'm practicing with my foamy.. but not sure what airframe I should buy next? My local field is known for windy conditions.. and I'm still working on becoming a 3D pilot... Do I move up into a 30-50CC plane? gets a bit pricy if I put another plane or two into the dirt.. I'm up for gas or 4-stroke nitro, any suggestions (minus profiles) Thanks again for reading guys! |

A number of guys at our field are really enjoying learning 3D flying with the Flex innovation QQ Extra 300 super PNP. https://www.flexinnovations.com/product-p/fpm3070.htm
It has built-in stabilization so it can handle the wind well yet is capable of most 3-D maneuvers |

The u can do 90 was kind of a turd for anything other than hovering compared to the newer modern planes. 35cc aj laser flies darn good but would be an expensive ouch. But then again a good flying plane won’t do bad things and get away to go ouch. I would try to find a good used 50cc or 100 cc plane and go burn some gas. Keep practicing with your foamy too

Lawn Darting vs Dumb-Thumbing!
Long Racing,
I was getting all excited knowing that somebody out there had actually "Lawn-Darted. Mere minutes ago I returned from the field after "Lawn-Darting" a member's plane. (He had repaired the bolt-on wing to his Cub and the bolts pulled through the wing.) This resulted in a straight down "Lawn-Dart" (better known as the infamous "figure "9" maneuver) that we have all experienced at one time or another. So the difference in "Lawn-Darting" and what you have experienced is gonna make for the same terrible feeling afterward. In order to walk away from the field with your head up high, you must leave the members that were present at your faux paux session with something to make them forget the error of your ways. Send a pizza on over to them with your regrets that you made them see something that terrible. (I had to leave to go work at the hobby shop so I invited them over for coffee and donuts after their morning flying session.) Hope you find a sweet substitute of a new plane to help you get over your misery! WT |

LOL thanks WangoTango, just keep telling myself.. I could never put one in.. if I wanted to take it nice and easy.. but not my style of flying any longer.. Although I don't plan on doing it again...... I'm kidding myself to think I'm not going to make another error causing another one to go down.
Foamy is fun & good practice.. but nothing compars to flying at the field with a nice size aircraft! Thanks for the suggustions guys! please keep them coming! Was thinking about a 60 size Twist.. but with the heavy winds at my field, was thinking to go with Pilot 67"(22%) Edge.. I did like how nice and easy the U-Can-do would fly when on 1st rates.. Keep pushing that envelope! |

Does anybody have input on the Twist 60? I have a OS 91FS that would fit nice.. Only out $190 if another mishap.
Thanks! |

Just like the others said, in order for you to get better at 3D you need a good plane. The AJ is an awesome plane and they are in Monroe, a short drive from you. I was in the same boat years ago and kept crashing crappy planes that kept saying they are great at 3D. I finally bought a quality airframe (3DHS Slick) that was very 3D capable and it was like night and day in my flying. Find a good used 30-50 cc plane (800-$1800) and burn gas/nitro/electrons otherwise you will be asking for another airframe suggestion in a short time and all you would have to show for is spent money. Good luck

The twist and u can do are absolutely horrible 3D planes. They are ok fun fly planes. If you insist on gas look for the extreme flight 74 Slick or 75 3DHS edge or the 73 AJ laser. If you are open to electric. Any of the Extreme flight/3DHS 60 inch planes are fantastic also the AJ 60 inch Laser.

Too bad a profile is already persona non grata. I have an 80 inch WWRC laminar wing profile that is about as close to a 3D trainer as you can get. It literally slows down time allowing you to work through the maneuvers. Mine has been instrumental in learning the rolling maneuvers especially at post stall speeds. The OMP fusion is a great profile although it should be electric or upgraded to 30cc as it's too heavy for 20cc. If you want to build there is a plethora of great designs over at profile brotherhood. SLABS RULE!

Thanks again guys.. So wife gave me the green light for a real 3D plane LOL. After doing some reading and taking advice from here.. I think I have narrowed it down to 2 planes.. wondering if I could have some feedback on my potential buys.. (i'll be attending Joe Nall later this month and plan on purchasing in person
I'm looking at E.F. 74" Slick 580 Exp (yellow/blue) OR E.F. 76" MXS-EXP (yellow/blue) Can anyone tell me some of the advantages/disadvantages between these two ? Again.. this will be my first "real 3d plane" rather than another U-can-do lol. I'll be running it on a DA-35 Thanks again! Very excited! |

Out of those two the Slick is going to save you a servo. Aside from that they are both really excellent flying planes on a DA35 |
