Best 46 Size Scale Aerobatic ARF for My OS 55AX
Hi,
What's the best scale aerobatic ARF (Extra, Sukhoi, Edge, Cap, Yak...) out there for my OS 55AX for no more than $200? I'm hoping to get something that can pull off some 3D with my 55AX. I know it's a difficult request, so I won't hold on too hard to the 3D thing, no profiles. I'm currently considering the GP Matt Chapman CAP 580 46 and the World Models CAP 232-46s. I've also looked at the Fliton and Kyosho Edge 540 and Extra, don't know if my engine can pull them comfortably though. And what about the ARFs from Nitroplanes and Phoenix? Like to hear everyone's thoughts. |

Phoenix makes some good planes, but they won't really 3D with the .55AX. I have their Giles 202 and Sukhoi; both are GREAT planes and very, very nice to fly, but they won't quite hold a hover. I'm running the 55 on both of them.
Nitroplanes I don't have much experience, but from what I've heard they're a mixed bag. |

If you don't mind getting away from a scale airplane, try the Fliton Inspire. It is probably the best flying airplane available in its size, and absolutely PERFECT for the 55AX.
https://www.flyinggiants.com/gallery...hp?photo=32614 Yes, it is more expensive than you're looking for, and not scale. But it will take your flying farther than anything else available for your engine. You might also try the Extreme Flight 58" Extra 300. It is also more expensive than you're looking for, but is extremely high quality, and comes with everything you will need. It seems to fly amazing, as well. |

I'm now seriously moving away from scale, there's nothing there that'll give me a flying blast with my engine. So how about the Hangar 9 FuntanaX 50 or the ShowTime 50? How would they perform with my 55AX compared to the Fliton Inspire 60? And would I be able to 3D with any of them? (I know I wasn't going to hang on to 3Ding, but after seeing that video with the 55AX...)

I don't have any direct experience with the Funtana or the Showtime, but from what I've read the 55 probably won't be enough for the Showtime.
You might also consider the Great Planes Reactor, my dad has one and it flies great, not quite as good as the Inspire but it's built a little stronger and it costs quite a bit less. One more option you might consider is doing a glow conversion to a 3DHobbyshop airplane, like their 55" Katana, Yak, or Extra. You'd be in uncharted waters and you'd have to do some fuel-proofing, but they're said to be extremely strong and high quality. Ben is a great guy too. |

I would say that you 55 should power either the showtime or the funtana just fine. I run saito 82s in both of mine. But if you are looking for an inexpensive fun flying do just about anything model for that engine. Get a 40 size twist. It is a light flying tough little aerobat. And priced very reasonable. The showtime and the funtana are very fragile compared to the twist. So until you have become quite good you should probably opt for the twist. If you are good and want a very nice flying plane with almost scale looks go for the funtanax 50. I think with the right prop your engine will do just fine.

Hey, I second that on the Twist! I have the 55 in mine & run it on 30% Heli fuel & a 14/4 APC & its ballistic. $99.00 airframe & cheap servos = lots of fun.....Gene

I just ordered an Inspire 60 and will use a YS 63 on it. That engine seems like it will 3D up to a 5.5lb plane with ease so hopefully I'll get a lot of miles out of it. |
