Revy,

Hope the "Stick" heals quickly..

Has anyone tried 4mm carbon tube has a hinge pin material? It is about .282 grams per inch? Might be lighter than the AL or Brass option...

IBTRIN ,Your on to a good start there.try using some .035 modeling plywood (you can cut it with siccors) for making your templates and use some 3m HVAC Aluminum tape availible every where..
I made the main lowwer peice from a peice of carbon plate and glassed it in place.
Then I used the plywood template trip to eventualy perfect the design.
Now I have all the other carbon peices cut. I just need to remove the temporay one,Wich I have flown with and works great.
With the more Purddy and permenante version.
The flap I made for the top of the cylinders is made from header( Wrap Kevlar tape) I used the aluminum foil on it to make it stiff and stay wrapped around the cylinders and act as a shoud.
I works extremly well and is easy to remove for when you drop the bottom half of the cowling.
So as I mount the permenant peices and end peices to thebaffeling I will post some shots.
I just wanted it to be functional as well as workable and not a hassle for pulling off the cowling lowwer.

Yeah we tried them several years ago, but we experienced RF interferance and ended up removing them to sort the issue out. But this was before 2.4ghz.

Richo,

Thanks for the feedback... I might test one out just for "Grins and Giggles" and see if I encounter any RF with them..

Thanks again,

Ed

Yeah, it may be worth another try, we were on 36mhz back then, but it took a few flights before the issues started to become overwhelming. I guess it may be the carbon tube rubbing against the alloy receptical tube in the elevator/rudder.

Rico I may test one in a elevator on the ground just to see what the wear chareceristics are and if RF is still an issue. Something new to add to the list of things to try.. ;-)
