I wondered how that would even be done but the more I looked at your "snowstorm" photos I knew you did not use any templates.

I still wonder. Picturing how a compound curve should progress from beginning to end is one thing.

To do it again with the Siamese Twin (left and right sides) attached is another !

I've been unable to watch this thread over the weekend but I see that you've made some excellent progress. Good job!

I just picture it in my mind, then I start scraping the foam off with the wire brush, and a 90 degree angle grinder until it has the shape I want. I then switch to 36 grit sand paper and begin pulling everything in smoother and closer so I can read the surface, after that I use 80 grit sand paper untill it is very close. The final shape takes place in the bondo and high build primer step. This is the same way I did the Staudacher cowling and others over the years. You should do one, it is fun and easy to do.

I guess if they could lose that much bulk in a day, they would buy that for a dollar.

Also, the very first step worth mentioning was that we did hot wire alot of bulk from the original blocks, as to minimize the grinding that would have been done to get started.

Hey Bob,
I scanned through the thread but missed what you plan for Servos for this baby. I want to get my shopping list in order so I can get a jump on this thing.
I was thinking
  • 3) 8711's / 7950's per wing panel
  • 2) 8711's / 7950's per elevator half
  • 1) PS-050 Seiko for rudder
Have you given any thought to the Durant Direct Drive Install? I've done a few of them and they work great clean and saves weight. I know that Rick Byrd, Dean and other Top IMAC Freestyle guys only use that system.

I think Bob is running 8711 as you had there Damon. 3 / aileron, 2 / elevator.
