I have a video now I can share, The P38 is as smooth a plane as I have had the pleasure of flying;

P38 camera
Hi Jim,
I made a wood pylon and taped it on the rear fuse. I bought a car yesterday and will be selling the P38 soon. Dennis. |

I know it's been a while. The summer was crazy busy, but I have finally got paint on the 38. Here's a couple of pics. All that's left is to put in the fuel system, the gear and it will be ready to fly!

Been busy! Got it re-balanced after adding about 2 more lbs. The fiber glass booms must be nice and beefy!
Also spend the better part of the day working on the guns. started out with brass. after that didn't work I went with stainless. Basically the bird is just about ready to fly! Now if only the weather would cooperate! |

Sorry for the mishap! I wonder, in looking at the airframe design, if it is almost unavoidable to crack the booms. Do you think the full scale aircraft has the same issue(s)? Was your landing that hard whereby you felt the booms should have failed? It just seems to me that the fault "may" be in the original aircraft design, and not necessarily attributed solely to a harder than normal landing.
Either way, I like the bird. You have pumped a great amount of time and effort into it and I hate that it has to be repaired. Best of Luck, Smacka |

After i built he wood booms a read about people adding fiberglass to that area. So I did the same apparently not enough! LOL Everyone one who saw the landing said it wasn't hard at all. If I were to building wood ones again I'd use Spruce or bass wood for the crutch. And reenforce that area with more wood on the inside. I should hope the full scale ones wouldn't have the same problem. LOL |

Thanks for the kind remarks. It took long time to get them done. California cutie was a show plane so the guns were never fired. So no blow back marks.

That looks real nice, beautiful work!!! You are doing a first class job. Wish I lived close to you, so I could see it in person!! I would also love to be there to see it fly!!!
Please keep posting, it inspires me! I hope you have someone there to take video of her on her next flight. Keep it going, always look forward to your progress. Mike |
