FG EXCLUSIVE: PRO FLOW 3-D CANNISTERS
Hey guys, while at the California Huckfest I was speaking to Planebender (Dave Sullivan) about motors and exhausts we use. He perked up and right then he told me about a product he had been working for quite some time. He smiled and quietly said, " A 3D specific canister muffler."
He then asked me if I was ever satisfied with any cans I had tried to run while flying 3D. I answered, "Well no not really, most seem to have a step in the low to mid range transition that makes hovering, and slow rolling maneuvers hard to keep smooth." "BAM, you nailed it" was Daves reply. Then dave said "Sleepy, I fixed it". While most of the cans available now are very nice units that can help produce power for the near W.O.T. IMAC style of flying, most usually fall short in the low to mid RPM range that most 3D pilots like to use. Dave said he solved this issue. My experience with exhaust came from designing and testing my own systems on my race car and trying to overcome not only horsepower loss but clean transition from a low to high throttle . After many months of testing and tuning, he has the perfect 3D canister muffler. For those of you who don't know Dave, he was a National Championship Drag racer for over 20 years. He has worked as a machinist and engine builder in many race shops as well. Basically, the dude knows internal combustion engines, and what makes them work better. He also is a well know figure in the giant scale scene, throwing down 3D demos all over the country earning his name "Planebender". Dave was also my West Coast contact and man behind the scenes who really organized the California huckfest. over all, plain and simple a good dude. So check this out boys and girls, the world debut of: Planebenders PRO FLOW 3-D CANNISTERS! About the Product: From the very first time I flew using Canister exhaust I liked the quiet sound, It reminded me of my race car engines. The only thing that I hated was the severe hesitation and load up I experienced during the low to high transition. I believe most all of us would like to have a “electric transition” feel when advancing the throttle. I spoke to a couple of canister manufactures and asked them if they ever had plans to develop a product that was dedicated to the 3D flyer. They said that the current canisters work exactly as they were designed, To simply quiet the system “and no more”. That’s when I decided to design and develop some Canisters for myself that would be user friendly for my flying style. I let a few friends that fly severe cold and scorching hot weather try the cans out and they were very pleased in the instant difference in throttle transition they felt. So after giving it some thought and taking the advice of some close friends in the RC community I decided to manufacture the “PRO FLOW 3-D CANISTERS” I will offer these cans for the 150cc-170cc engines for now. I have plans to begin testing new canisters for the 100cc-120cc very soon. Although actual results can vary, several people that were testing the PRO-FLOW 3-D CANISTERS were able to see a gain of 300 RPM when switching from an in-cowl muffler. I offer the PRO FLOW 3-D CANISTERS in both front and rear exit units so they should be able to fit most applications. Also I offer a stinger extension kit for the rear exit models. This should make sure the exhaust gasses get all the way out of your plane! ALSO, these cannisters and extensions are 100% MADE IN THE USA! Thank You so much for reading about my project. If you are serious about 3D I hope you will try a set today! Dave “Planebender” Sullivan A website is coming, but for now please contact me at planebender@sbcglobal.net |
