Hi everyone,

I received this today via email.. I had a quick read of it and it seems to clear up quite a few issues that many had with the changes to MOP019...

As a general aviation pilot I have been reading CASA rules and regulations for a while now and they love to use legally ambiguous terminology that really doesnt provide a black and white answer.. yet leaves it open to interpretation.. but dont worry, its not just us and the MAAA they are applying this too.. every bit of CASA regulation is just as grey....

In short I think its business as usual and any event organiser that ran successfull events in the past shouldnt have any problem to do it again in the future...

(In this case we are still normally told about it.)

If I was a betting man I would say it is just confusion with the 25-50kg class which does have several redundancy requirements.put failsafe switch.

Sadly there are many inspectors who choose to ignore the MOP and set their own standards for a pass.
Howie i have decided to go with the redundant system anyway That way it won't be an issue.
Personally i think he may have just interpreted the mop that is on the website as all large models not just 25kg and over.
I have a couple of A123's here i'll just use them with a duel input and out failsafe switch.

It's called plausible deniability. Works really well unless you are the patsy.

Sounds very much like your mate needs to have another read of MOP015

Seriously, I do FW25 inspections on behalf of the MAAA and am not aware of any such requirement for under 25Kg
I suspect this is merely some confusion between FW25 and FW50 inspections rather than individual inspectors setting their own rules.
Do you have access to another inspector?

I can just imagine the fuss if the MAAA did try to change the heavy model MOP... It would just never happen. Could you imagine telling all the old war bird guys out there that their single 1100mah nicad pack on their 13kg P47 doesn't make the grade? Of course, we should probably be more worried about the single 3.5kg servo's that they have been running on the elevator since the mid-eighties... And don't get me started on kill switches...

Kill switches, easy mate I just use the the tried and very much tested method of striking the prop on the ground as you land, bit expensive but none the less effective.

Yeah we just had a young lad chuck his fingers into a 50cc motor of an unrestrained model, yep you got it, lost a couple of fingers. As a foot note this was not at our club, but at a small farm haveing a bit of a fly with a couple of mates, "we always start them like that " type of thing............................................. .. Why!!!!!!
