AJ's 93" Laser 200
This is not going to be a build thread exactly unless someone wants to jump in with photos.
I've to many giant scale ARF's together over the years to remember but never stop learning. I hope others will chime in with their experience on this plane.
First I should comment on the covering. In all of the ARF's I have uncrated, I have only seen two that had perfect ( no wrinkles) covering and required NO ironing.
This plane is one of the two.
I'm using the DA70 twin on this one with a small Ocean Spray juice bottle for the fuel tank and a fourteen channel Futaba Rx.
Eventually, I would like to incorporate the Cortex Gyro and give that a try.
I'm seeing this as a fun plane and maybe learning a couple of 3D maneuvers.
The servos are all JR 9711HV except the throttle servo which will be an 8711.
There is a small issue evolving the motor mounting bolts on the firewall.
Since the motor is mounted in an offset position to the left (port) side, the bolt holes are very close to the aluminum angle that reinforces the firewall. This means the washer or blind nut (which I like to use) does not seat flush on the back of the firewall. I ground off part of the blind nuts on that side so they would seat flush on the back of the firewall.
After the motor is mounted I will also use self locking nuts to back up of the blind nuts.
I have not received the "two into one" header yet or the canister so I cant' comment on how that will go.
I understand DA recommends a 23/10 for a three blade prop but I'd like to hear back from others on what they are using on this motor.
I'm not sure on what to use for the Rx/Ign. battery yet.
I will use the Tech-Aero IBEC (I have them on all of my other planes) to eliminate the ignition battery.
Another item I have started to do on my other planes; I cut the covering away on the underside of the fuselage right in front of the tail wheel.
This leaves an opening in the back for air to flow more readily through the fuselage and also provides access the servo wiring in the tail section.
I also had an issue with the main gear axles.
The hubs pressed onto the axles is soft aluminum and the very small flats that the wrench engages quickly rounded off requiring the use of Vise Grips to hold.
I don't like using the lock collars with set screws so I replaced the axles with some others I had around and used spacers on the inside of the wheels and "Clamp Collars" (McMaster Carr) on the outside.
The wheel pants have a nice feature that will insure that they stay in position.
The wheel pant has a recess on the inside that the landing gear fits into. Once bolted on, it can not rotate out of position.
I hope some others with this plane will chime in with any tips or other information they may have.
I have both of the 73" and 93" Laser and have the DA-35 in the 73 and the DA-70 in the 93, and I have the Tech Aero IBEC in them. On the 93 I use the two Pulse 3600 mah RX packs running into a Powersafe receiver. I use a Falcon 24x9 carbon prop. If you have any other questions, I started a AJ Aircraft Facebook page and if you needed any more questions answered Andrew Jesky is a member on there too. https://www.facebook.com/groups/310373522457941/
Please post pics and questions you have on the model.
I have flown this setup with a 23x10 blade, 24x10 falcon 2 blade prop. One id like to try is the 25x8 falcon prop. I have heard good things about this prop.
