Tips on Smoking

Hey guys,

I've just put my first smoke system in. Cool as heck I'm having alot of fun using it.
However, it seems that most of the threads about smoke are on what system to use, what fluid to use, and how to get the smoke into the muffler.

I'm thinking we need a thread that focuses on how to use smoke once you have it coming out of your plane.

What are the maneuvers that look better with smoke?... especially maneuvers that look boring without smoke, but suddenly become interesting once smoke is on.

Tips for getting the greatest "OOOoooo" factor out of your 6 minutes of smoke fluid.

Here's my start:

Use the smoke to highlight high "G" maneuvers. When you pile on the G's, the wingtip vortices get stronger, and the smoke, in turn swirls behind the plane more. It's especially cool to do a half inside loop followed by a half outside loop (a giant "S" in the sky). Where you go from positive G's to negative G's, the wingtip vortices will reverse direction, causing some cool effects in the smoke.

When you roll, add some rudder in the same direction as the aileron. This will cause the tail to corkscrew without bleeding energy like you would in a snap roll. It doesn't take much rudder, and you get a pretty corkscrew of smoke through the sky.

Flat spins are always a favourite. The stalled condition causes the smoke to billow over the wing...the high power setting produces dense smoke.

Flying more slowly allows the smoke to concentrate more... giving a denser cloud. Hovering is a great example of this.

So... what are your favourite smoking maneuvers, and how do you use your smoke?

lol - i remember well when the smoke thing was hot for me - then i saw what it did to my planes, the covering peeling away, the oil in the canopy and everywhere else, so nowadays I use it for shows only - because im the only one paying for the damage - oops sorry guys!!!
