Delayed again with the 30 CC testing. Got it in the air but had a servo failure and made a quick landing. All safe now. The engin sounded strong a bit rich so on the next attemp I will lean it out a bit and try again. More to follow.

Finally got a day when the wind was under 50 mph and took the cub out for a flight. I found an old Pitts style muffler from a Zenoah G23 and replaced the stock DLE noise can. This sounds much better without the "bite" the DLE muffler had. I was actually getting some unhappy comments from other members about this noisy motor. I also think this muffler allows the motor to run better, even though I had to "dead-stick" in the video. That was because I forgot to adjust my motor trim prior to the flight - too anxious to get the photos. Most of the time the motor ran clean although I was at full or high throttle most of the time. It still "burbles" at low mid range but my three other flights today resulted in good motor-on landings and solid running in the air. The still pix with the "old goon" is to show the relative size of this 1/4 scale PA18 Super Cub. Weight 21lbs. WS 110" mostly scratch built from parts of BUSA j-3 kit.
Boy - you should see her fly on floats. Float fly in a couple of weeks and will try to get a better video.

Did some flying last night with the Xoar 19A 3D. Definitely has more pull than the Xoar 19x8. In addition, I found my canister was cracked and had to switch back to the stock muffler on the DLE 30. So I shed some weight as well. Its definitely MUCH louder going from the canister and 19x8 to stock muffler and 19A 3D. But the power is what I was looking for. Was pushing over 8000rpms no problem as well.

Side carb. I'm also using a velocity stack to keep it from spitting fuel.

My Dle30 never did seem to spit fuel. I have it now as rear intake....still does not spit fuel....I have had it running on a test stand and can hold my fingers right by the intake...nothing. Also in the box area ...no fuel residue. If I ever do have a rear carb that spits....I will use a foam type air cleaner for a big Motorcycle carb and just kinda place it over the velocity stack....fixed! Capt,n

when ordering the 30 do u have a choice on carb placement or does all of the newer verson come wiht it in the rear?

Yeah I'm not sure why my engine spit so bad, it runs great otherwise. The velocity stack did solve the spitting though.

I would have to tack the engine again with the prop, but when we first stuck it on and were tuning it we were getting around 1000rpm more. Earlier in this thread I saw 7200rpm on a 19x8 and 7700rpm on the 19 3DA. My 19x8 was in the 7200 rpm range, but the 19 3DA was over 8000. The pull definitely feels better, it has that little extra kick I was missing. But going from a 19x8 on a can to the 19 3DA on stock muffle, is definitely a lot louder! It really rips this prop.

I have two side mount rear case halves if anyone is interested, just PM me. Switched more for better setup than any running issues. Mine both seemed to run just fine, although there was some spitting without the velocity stacks installed. Pretty minimal compared to RCGF engines that I have, they spit like crazy.

All the new ones are rear carb but I have both versions, need to call me if you want the side carb version.
