Which is the best of the 1/4 scale Greateplanes Performance Series?

Hello, stores here are selling off some of the a little bit outdated of the 1/4 scale GP Performance. I am looking for something to fit my YS170CDi, and looking at the specs the GPs are a little bit smaller then the current set of 50cc airplanes so I figured they might fit.

I have no personal experience with any of these but I've had a few older GP planes that I liked the quality of, so I hope these will at least be better then some of the China ARFs I've seen...

I do not know exactly which is the oldest, best flying, or the best suited for an YS170. I would like a two piece wing to simplify transport and storage but that's not 100% necessary. These are the ones on sale, is there anyone out there that have some experience with any of them to help me choose:

YAK3D 54 1.60 ARF
SU-31 3D 1.60 ARF
GP Patty Wagstaff's Extra 300S
EDGE 540 1.60 ARF
CAP 232 1.60 ARF

Regards,

//Robert

I didn't know any of those were still available. The edge flies "ok" but they are all quite heavy for their size. I would recommend getting rid of the ys and get a gas engine and buy something from one of the popular companies such as pilot, 3dhs, ef, omp, pau etc.

At least an honest opinion, always appreciated

Will keep the Ys though, I like the sound and the smell of nitro too much. Also, unfortunately I fly too little for fuel cost to be an issue.

The Patty Wagstaff is one of the best flying planes there is....very strong (fully sheeted)! If one is still available I would snatch it up! Go with a DA 60 or a DLE 55......not the POS Fuji 43 they recommend.....

Had the Patty Wagstaff...one with an O.S. 160 and the other with a DA-50

Loved it either way, just preferred gas over glo so that's what I kept!

The 3Dub 50 would be perfect in it.....in my humble opinion.......

I think those who told you that it was not such a great flyer.....were steering you wrong. It did everything I through at it.....including some insane blenders that everyone thought would eventually rip the wings off.....never did though

GP Wagstaff is a awesome plane....the extra weight made mine tumble very well, had a zdz50 on it. The only part I had trouble with was getting it slowed up for landing, I was always overshooting our runway.

Most of these planes will have no spare parts available, so take that in consideration. I always thought these planes were "tweeners", too small for a 50cc and too large for a 30cc gas. So the mighty YS might be pretty interesting on one.

Have a new, built Patty with a 3 Dub 50 in it hanging here in the shop for sale... Also have a NIB SU-31 sitting on the shelf. They were good flyers (The Patty probably had the edge in flying capability) but one of the major negative things about this series of planes was the swept back landing gears. What the heck was up with that back in designville?

He would be doing his best impression of the "Friday Houston Sluff-off." It's sorta like the Harlem Shuffle but involves Tex-Mex and beer. I will relay the message to him and you'll probably hear from him shortly.

It's not in your list of planes but the Great Planes Reactor 1.60 is a great flying plane and you can still get parts support at Tower Hobbies. I've had mine for three years . On low rates it flies pattern very well and on high rates it taught me to fly 3d. I have a DLE 55 on mine.
