I'm going to weigh mine when finished...just to see. Wing tube is HEAVY!

Finished the stabs today, luckily I had some oversized grommet collers and screws to mount the Servos. The pre drilled holes are the next size up from standard mounting screws. Found some small door panel clips that push in to keep the hinge tube in place at Lowes, fit real well.
While I was at lowes I picked up some aluminum 2" angle stck to make some aileron servo trays. The supplied wood trays just didn't look strong enough. I'm using hitecs 7990 on ailerons and rudder. So no trays are readily available. I thought making a couple trays might take a couple of hours, ..jeez just about all day, but I like em. |

I just did a rough balance check and it's definitely tail heavy. I have the parts laying on the cowling in approximately the right area but I wasn't expecting the plane to still be tail heavy. I'll start mounting equipment as far forward as possible and keep checking as I go. The rudder servo definitely won't go in the stock location. I may look into the carbon spar, it'd be nice to lose some weight behind the CG.
The guys running DA-120s must really have issues. |

I think I'll start working the battery tray and all the stuff up front and then see where I stand. Thanks for your input, this is my first Comp-Arf. |

On my CARF, I have the fuel and smoke tank tray on top of the wing tube with my powerbox and reciever and since you have stock mufflers and not canisters there should be room for your servo tray up front, but then again maybe the layout for the Edge 540 is not the same as the Extra 260. By the way the Edge 540 will be my next project beautiful plane It is my pleasure to give you some insight, let me know, if i maybe of anymore assitance! Try to keep your tailgear as light as possible!

I changed the elevator and hinge pins from the supplied brass items, to the alloy items they use on other CARF's. Saved almost 60 grams (nearly the same as a servo), but more importantly was where the 60 grams was located! Have had no wear issues with the alloy tubes.

I like that balancer looks like it makes things pretty easy. My first COMP as well. just have to think a little different while building. |
