Build Log
45% extra 260 scratch build

For a few years my friends Dave, Brent and I were talking about how we would build a great flying large scale plane. Then Brent and Dave decided to put pen to paper and start drawings of what we had been dreaming up while flying at the air field. Once it the drawings where complete they gave me a copy so we could all build one. I live 3 hours away from them so when I started building mine I ended up making a few "Joe" style modifications. . The most changes where to the rudder and the wings to make the plane more of a 3D flying plane rather than an IMAC plane that it was originally designed for. I am doing my airplane out of ply wood and foam. I have been working on this plane for about 6 months now. I am enjoying this project and learning from the new techniques I am trying on this build.
The dimensions are:
134" wing
116.5 " fuselage (without spinner)
123.5" with spinner
My goal weight is 41-43 lbs. with a DLE222.

This looks awesome! Where did you get all your lazer cutting and foam cutting done?

I hand cut all of my own stuff with my scroll saw and router. I also have my own enlarged feather cutter that I cut all of my foam stuff with.

50cc Profile su26 tail slide and brutal parachutes (2 min 35 sec)

Here is a link to a video of me flying my last custom built plane. It is a 50 cc 88 inch Sukhoi SU 26 that was a design collaboration of Jeremy and me. My goal is to get this new one to fly like my SU 26 does. Therefore, I am making sure to give this build the extra strength that it needs to handle the moves that I want to do with it. By doing things like increasing the wing area at the root like I did in my SU 26 I am sure this extra is going to be awesome in 3D.

I've been working on it all week. Here are some new pictures of the turtle deck and canopy hatch. Now that these pieces are done I can see that I am going to have to enlarge my pilot. I am still at a good weight of 8 lbs 1 oz for the entire fuselage and canopy hatch. Now on to the hard part for me, I have never molded a cowling before. I am nervous but super excited to try something new. I build because I enjoy the challenge.

He hand drafts the piece onto a part of wood cut from a 4x8 sheet and drills holes, then scroll saws every hole of every part. It is absolutely mind boggling to me the amount of thought that He puts into every component. Most all of the ply you see began with a rip cut on the table saw...

In fact I showed up one day and seen the first fuselage core frame ( top bottom and sides ) broken up and sitting in the can because he thought he had missed the tube location by one inch.. Joes work is that of a craftsman. I however am the cad guy and try to provide parts off the full size plotter. to save on layout time. Notice the prints on the wall for the sukhoi. However with this project I have only been able to offer assistance in one place.
