Well I ordered one of these Aviation Models Extra 260s on Monday should be here Monday according to the tracking number. This is the first time I have ordered something like this I usually pick it up. Anyway it is coming from Chief Aircraft and I think I got a pretty good deal, and TBM is supposed to be able to get parts if needed. I have one of the 30% AM YAK 54s and I love it so I hope the 260 is just as good or better.

I am pretty much going to build it stock, no carbon stuff yet, first thing will be tail wheel and landing gear, any suggestions for a tail wheel?

I ordered some misc stuff for the build the plane should be here Monday. Inever cared for the control horns that came with my AM YAK so I got some different stuff, I have one of these Graphtec tail wheels on my YAK and it works well. I am also going to build some 4/40 carbon rods for control, and I have always wanted to try the Air wild cable terminators so I got a couple of those. I was thinking of a Carbon spinner from Esprit Models check out their site http://www.espritmodels.com , 4 inch carbon spinner for $60.00. Here is my order

Unfortunately the 4" cf or glass spinner is not in stock.

Lots of pics for sure......didn't realise that about the spinner sorry.....they are very nice though a buddy of mine ordered one. I would think they would have more stock soon.

IMO- the 4" spinner might be a bit too large. Better recheck??
A 3.5 dia. came with my kit ( from SD-Models). Weighed a ton but such nice mirror finish!

I wanted to buy a 4" T-T off Flying Giants swap shop for $40 but too large for my cowling.
I bought a 3.5 "Ultimate" Tru-Turn , Black anodized and it is really a sweet looking component up front. (allot of $$ with Da drilling, prop cut outs and shipping - their polo shirt - sucks )

I used the Sullivan tailwheel bracket - so low tech but cost me $16 or so. ( used the $$ saving on larger capacity batts) I doubt this design has a punitive weight penalty or even excessive when compared to high dollar graphite thingys. Has built-in design to allow Rudder to be removable. (as I did)

Well I received the plane today and it is awesome! Very nice there isn't even any bubbles in the covering. Here are several pics, some of the highlights for me:
1. Pre tinted canopy
2. Very nice paint on cowl and wheel pants
3. construction seems very high qaulity
4. Very nice hardware package, complete.
5. Spinner included
6. No manual but I just downloaded it and printed it no big deal

I don't have a scale but I am trying to get one it all feels very light, I am guessing when I am done it will be a 16lb plane that is my goal at least.

I am trying to get the engine mounting figured out, I will be starting this build right away.

Nice. Here is the one I did a couple weeks ago. Make sure you move everything as far forward as you can if you don't run their spinner. I used a carbon spinner and you can see where things ended up to balance.

I am considering getting a larger tank for the DA50. If I get 12 minutes of flying on their "stock" 750cc tank, I'm playing with fate.
Anyone else have a similar duration issue?
cyoung - you might want to consider the upgrade... Why do it twice?

I have a 24oz Du-Bro tank I will be installing into the pipe tunnel. I did this on my YAK and this way you have a lot more room on top for the electronics. I hoping to get everything on or near the CG.

Does anyone know where I can get a DA template for the fire wall??

OK I got the firewall drilled and mounted I pretty much followed the manual on this one, I had to cut about 1 1/4 inches off the firewall, also used a DA template for the holes and alignment, it came out pretty good. They included the aluminum angle so I went ahead and used it, the firewall is a little thin so I added the aluminum angle and some 1/2 inch balsa tri-stock. All glued together with 30 minute epoxy. I also like to paint my firewall with texture paint, does not add any weight and really makes for a clean looking firewall, helps with fuel protection too. Here are the pics of the progress, and I am done for tonight.
