Finally got some time to work on stuff today. Next week is a little better work wise, so should make some good progress with a couple of evenings.

Started out today with about an hour set-back. Started laying out the fuselage and found that F-5 and F-6 were too wide and F-7 was too narrow. So I drew up some new ones and headed home for a little laser work:

As long as I was making new parts, I put some cross member in them to add a little strength. I also added a couple of holes for the servo wires to run through.

Waiting for glue to dry, I dusted off the PAU ARC Edge. I decided to replace the firewall with a laser assembly.......just cuz. It does weight about half what the original firewall and fuse sides did. Will give me a little more room to move the batteries, etc. around.

The landing gear plate also did not have much support, especially at the rear. It was a butt joint of plywood to balsa. I want to make sure it will hold up to harrier landings, etc. So I cut a brace to put at the back of the plate and installed some hardwood tri-stock.

I'll be fiberglassing the canopy deck as well as doing painting and covering at the same time as my Aerotech to combine processes where I can.

OK, back to the Aerotech. Finished formers, did some trimming and sanding. Installed carbon rods for the cross members.

I also lasered the locations for the anti-rotation points on the wing root ribs and the corresponding plates in the fuselage. I re-cut the horizontal stab root ribs along with the holes for the mounting screws. Since I cut those, I cut the corresponding holes in the tail section. So, when it comes time to install the wings and stabs they should need very little adjustment to set the incidences.

So if average Joe Modeler was building this kit how bad a shape would he be in? Would he have noticed this?

Anyone could re-make these parts with limited tools and a few scraps of plywood. You should not have to though.

Only had a few hours today, but I got the rest of the bracing in the fuse done. Also it looked to me that the sheeting on the front belly area was going to be pretty fragile with limited support. I had some 3/16" contest balsa sticks in a box from years ago, so I added something for the sheeting to attach to. As long as I was in the groove I sheeted the front bottom so I am ready to sheet the sides next.

Probably won't get to work on it tomorrow, killer work day ahead. I'm going to shoot for Wed. night to sheet the sides and test fit the wing cores to see where I stand.

Can one of you 30NF guy's explain the heat setting part of that glue??? Do I just go to Wally World and buy a cheap cloths iron and go over it?? What temp and pressure? My theory with contact cement has always been the more toxic the better hold, but that does not work with foam.
