While we're on the battery topic, the 91" Extra that I flew at the 2011 XFC felt great with the 12s 8,000mah configuration and had excellent performance. The only problem that I found with those packs was that a 90mph negative-G wall cranks up their inertia factor beyond the holding power of one velcro strap.

Brian, for what it's worth, I have two Hayin packs right now and although they're fine, I would stick with the Gens Ace. I've never flown the Yellow Jacket packs, but if Chris recommends them along with the Gens Ace, I'm sure they're great.

Based on that should I reinforce the floor where the batteries will be, which is actually the roof of the pipe tunnel?

Thanks Daniel and Chris... I went with some Gens as I to have had good results with them. I just haven't used their 6s5300s yet and you guy's approval of them tipped my decision that way.

Oh no. The airplane is more than strong enough to hold the batteries. The single velcro strap just wasn't enough...

No problem Bryan! I hope that everything works out great with your setup.

Anyone have a measurement from the firewall to the front of the canopy? I am trying to source standoffs for a MF 5335 Motor.
Thanks in advance.

Are you wanting the distance from the firewall to the back of the spinner plate? I believe it is close to 6.365". If you are, I have a DA-70 which is 5.64" from back of it's backplate to the front of prop hub. I used 5/8" or .625" standoffs. I had a DA-60 on it first, which is 5.288 for the same distance and it used 1" standoffs.

Thanks... just found the answer from a old post of Curtis's that it was 6.32" from the firewall to the motor drive washer... you guys are within .045" of each other so that confirms it.
Appreciate it.
Got a reply from Ken, the 5335 motor is 84.00mm (3.307") from the back of the X mount to where the prop spinner back plate rests.

So 3.013-3.058" standoffs should work.

Finally got to maiden my 91 on Monday while skipping work. As with all EF planes, just can't say enough about it but was very impressed with the "cleanliness" of the precision flying and the wild side is really fun too. I'm going to seriously enjoy this plane with the DA70. Four flights so far, almost no KE mixing with a neutral CG. KE spins without the SFG's are just crazy and slooooooooowwwww high alfa KE with them is kick ass. Very nice plane EF, sorry it took me so long to get one and get it in the air......I've been missing out

Also flew the stuffing out of my new 78" Extra and other than people poking fun at my "small" plane it was (as I expected) the best plane in that size I've ever flown.....hands down, no contest

J&J, best out there for this size up to 40%'ers IMHO and fair priced to boot. I did quite a lot of tail dragging for first day out. Without this wheel it would have been rudder dragging which is not good for servos or hinges.

Nice pictures Terry! Glad to hear you are enjoying the 78" and 91" Extras. I have enjoyed watching your progress on the Vypers as well, very nice looking planes!
