Re: How to perform Rollingharrier

I can only imagine the balsa that will stack up if I ever try high alpha... My left thumb isn't very intelligent.

BTW Rob.... what is that software you're using to convert G5 video files to .mpg?

Rob, That's fantastic, thanks for taking the time to do it for us. If I can make it to the All-Up, I want to watch you do this up close & personal

Re: How to perform Rollingharrier

So... I went to the field today with my 70 inch EF Extra... I had a little more dialing in to get it to hold a knife edge in both directions... then it was time to try my first REAL rolling harrier... OK, more a rolling circle.

Just let me say, for the rest of you that do this with real models... I gained a TON of respect for you! I was able to get the timing down on my thumbs, and for 1/2 or 3/4 of a circle, I was able to see the attitude of the plane and know what stick adjustments needed to be made... for that I was satisfied.

But, seems like every time I took my eye off of the spin and looked at the altitude.. it was 50 feet higher than when I started! I guess that's better than 50 feet below, but I still have a lot of work to do. Gotta say though, it was fun to get out there and try something new.

The biggest problem with learning rolling circles is that this takes up a lot of real estate, and I'd rather be the only plane in the air for the first several flights... hate to crack up someone elses plane just because neither of us know where I'm going. This isn't a good strategy for a Sunday afternoon.

Anyway, I learned a lot, still have a lot to learn, and I came home with all in 1 piece... that's a good day!

Keep on huckin at man!! I started trying them on my TopDawg Edge all day Saturday and Sunday after a week solid on the sim. Once you get the timing down it isn't to bad. I just have got to keep my rudder and elevator from moving at the same time in sequence... Gonna be hard for me to break that one...
