My grandfather used to fog for mosquitos with a mixture of diesel fuel and DDT . . . very effective!

ah, got it. Those devices use anything from citronella oil to charcoal!
We used a portable charcoal barbaque when out fishing on my pal's dad's boat. Kept the mosquitoes far away.
For kayaking trips we sleep next to the fire, no bugs, burn citronella candles, no bugs

LMBO!!!!! Das sum funny stuff right there...... I've tried many different mixes with the hopes of saving money. Even called the producers of the oils to find that the big guys, scale preformers and airforce flight teams, to find that they just use mineral oil or a close variation. At any rate, the cost is so close that it's not worth messing with especially when you add shipping. Super Dri is about the best bang for the buck.....

Brave I'm starting to think the same thing. I am going to call Haycock Petroleum today though. They have a shop right here in town and I'm pretty sure the airport here bought the smoke oil the Blue Angels used last moth from there.

Sorry if this got covered already because I did not read the entire thread, but I have acquired full scale aviation smoke oil at a ridicules price and have been using it for RC applications and it works great. It is a higher viscosity, however, than the stuff designed for RC so it is blowing out the seals in the pump after a short time. Is there a safe way to thin out the oil? It sounds like some are using kerosene. Thanks in advance......

I burn Aeroshell Smoke oil straight and it works great! I run it through my Sullivan pump with no issues. Be sure to filter your oil.

I am using a Harris pump on a DLE-111 running at a pretty low draw and I got smoke oil leaking thru the pump within a couple of flights. I spoke with the guys at Harris and I was told the oil is too thick and will continue to blow the seal if I use the oil again. Maybe I need a pump that can handle the thicker oil. I would still like to be able to thin this stuff safely without compromising the effects of the smoke. Thanks again.....

I don't see why thinning with kerosene would be a problem

I may try that! I have read about 3/4 oil to 1/4 kerosene. Any thoughts?

Start low and work your way up. I've used kerosene with baby oil, atf, etc. Still nothing beats super-dri that I have found in my home brews.

I tried using this one (http://lemona.lt/)

IT smokes OK inside the house , but only some results are visible outside the aircraft. You have to LOOK for it / it holds for 50-100 meters max.

Sorry for my broken English.
I just found this forum very useful and decided to contribute with my know-how.
