This has been something we have been preparing for for a long time. This was not an overnight decision. The fact that we may be living in it full-time for several months (maybe a year?? if we build a house at the next base) was a major factor in choosing a rig this large. If it were just hubby and I with no kids, or just the furballs, and we didn't have to worry about moving, I could definitely see us in something more economical!

MSRP with the options we chose was about $88655...we got it out the door with all the prep and some stuff installed on it for us for $62k. 25% off MSRP is good...30% off is considered aggressive haggling. I think we did okay.

We upgraded our truck last June, thinking it would be about 1-2 years before we thought about the toy hauler. I guess going to a lot of events last year just made it more apparent that we wanted a toy hauler...plus, we put our travel trailer up for sale in September thinking we might get a nibble here and there over the winter...2 weeks on Craigslist and the first couple that looked at it bought it at our full asking price the night they saw it...so we were like, Crap! That was a little too easy! Now we don't have a camper! LOL

Exactly! That's what we thought. Honestly didn't think it was sell that fast! But the buyers had a similar situation where the hubby was retired military and got a civilian job up near DC. They had a house in NC and couldn't sell yet so he's been staying in a friend's RV up there and "visiting" his family on weekends. He wanted to buy a rig that his family could live in with him while they tried selling or renting their home and before they bought up in that area.

RVs can really free up the finances while you are in limbo between places/jobs. We have become "attached", if you will, to the RV life. We have not bought a house yet (Thank goodness!), so anytime we go camping we feel like we're "home" because we own the rig...the house we rent feels like we're visiting.

Ok guys I have been following this thread for a long time. I recently downsized to a 5x8. Set it up for 2 30cc size aircraft. Insulated top and sides. Installed 3/8 ply on sides with new paint. Ceiling was finished out in vinyl soffit material using stainless self starting screws into roof bracing. Commercial grade carpet on the floor. Easy to transport and doesn't take up too much space in the garage. Not a work of art like I have seen here, but it meets what is required for me at the present time.

Well, in a few weeks I will pick up my new trailer. Just put the deposit down on it. I am getting a 6x14 v-nose with ramp door, radial tires, RV door, rear stabilizing jacks, and D rings for my motorcycle if ever needed.

Making an upgrade from a barn door 5x10 to a ramp 6x12 vnose. Your pic just got me thinking, as well as all the other great ideas in this thread. With a ramp, I can put all my stuff on wheels and ROLL it out! Duh! hadn't thought of that one, much easier. Got 3 months, no wait, less than 3 months to have the new trailer ready for NALL. I'd better get cranking.
