Breaking News: IMAC World Championship in 2014

From the desk of Wayne Matthews, President of IMAC:

The IMAC Board of Directors has labored for the past 11 months discussing, initial planning, and can now make an official announcement.

The IMAC organization, which is now 38 years old (started in 1974), is the “standard bearer” for Scale Aerobatics world-wide. At present we have 15 countries flying Scale Aerobatics using AMA’s Scale Aerobatics rules and also using IMAC’s Unknowns system on a weekly basis. The Board of Directors believes IMAC is ready to initiate an international event which will bring all of the countries flying Scale Aerobatics together to compete. The 2014 IMAC World Championship will be held on September 2-6, 2014 at the AMA Headquarters in Muncie Indiana. The event will be run using the 2013-2014 Scale Aerobatics Rules with Sportsman, Intermediate, Advanced, and Unlimited classes competing for the International team and individual awards.

There is still a lot of planning to be done. Details pertaining to qualifications for the USA team will be released shortly; however, the USA Team selection will be tied to the Regional Points standings during 2013 with a final “showdown” contest between the qualified IMAC Members in each “zone”. Other countries will be responsible for determining their Team selection.

The Board of Directors knows there is a lot of work ahead. We look forward to putting on this event and hope you are as excited as we are to compete and or volunteer to make the first International Scale Aerobatic Championship a huge success.

International Miniature Aerobatic Competition at its best… GO IMAC!

Best regards,
Wayne Matthews
President

Another "world " championship held in the USA. will this be like your "World" series in baseball? One year will be forgiven, but it would be nice if "World" to an American organising body actually meant that and each year was held in a different country. IMAC is global now.

Rant over. Good idea though.

Hello there Mr./Ms Virago.... You might be pleased to know that IMAC in the UK has already expressed interest in a 2018 IMAC Worlds there.

I do understand how you feel.... and I DO agree with you that our organization is now global and will grow even more.

Bring the Worlds to sunny Jamaica after the UK. We would be more than happy to refresh the non-Jamaican teams with bottles and bottles and bottles of Red Stripe Beer to accompany Jerked chicken and pork.

Well done Wayne and the IMAC Board, excellent initiative.

IMHO, a "World Championship" contest that includes any class other than unlimited is pretty silly.

I am looking forward to this! And people say IMAC is dying! IMAC is going on full board! Thank you Wayne for everything you do for IMAC. Guys you just don't know how much behind the scenes work goes on to make an event like this happen! It just doesn't happen over night or even in a couple months. It takes a year or two of preparation to put on an event like this!
