Storing a massive wing

All the final parts for the P47 should be here in the next few weeks.

The current issue is how the heck do I store a 102" by 24" wing!!!

I have a 20x26 foot workshop but it is filled with tools and RC helis. The ceilings are 9' which helps but this thing is massive!

I'm thinking of bolting 1 1/2" PVC conduit onto the top of a shelving unit and covering them with foam pipe wrap and resting the wing on top of that. The one challenge is the landing gear are fixed so they stick down by 18" or so.

Any tips or tricks for storing big things like this??

If you look to the right in the first picture you will see a standard, home made wing rack. There is an 85" P-47 wing on there. You can do something similar- I would take a 2' chunk of 2x4, cut it in half, and drill holes for a 3/4" oak dowel and glue it in, then screw the 2x4 into a stud. Pvc will bend and eventually fail.

Yeah, I think it's time to purge the shop and redo the setup. It's just hard to find a place for the cabinet saw and feed table. I always like the ability to cross cut a piece of plywood within .001 of an inch...

I'm jealous of your saw... I've been a trim carpenter for 20 years, and I don't even ahve a tracksaw! (I'd rather spend that money on airplanes)

Storage issue solved. For the fuselage I will look at a harness and pulley system an snuggle it between the rafters.

I'm using these Kyak a Lifts. They are great and cheap, $24-30 each.

Pic on the right is two 40% for size reference.

Yes, 102" one piece wing. It makes moving things around very interesting. Especially since the landing gear are fixed.
