I think we need a specific sarcasm font. Who boy, I got a second double root canal today, because he screwed it up last week. At least I got some Vicodin.

Jayson I totoaly forgot your 300 tonight . I got side tracked and we had to eat at a diffrant spot so we didn't get to Joe's till 10 . I was in a rush because I have to work in the Am. Maybe Joe remembered and gave it to Keith , he was there longer than me. Or maybe Jay can run over in the am and pick it up for you. Sorry dude. I'll make some calls in the Am if they don't see this and text you.

Exactly. My 170CS motors have monster compression compared to the DA (due to the double rings). Most people really don't get what octane does in fuel... alot assume that more octane creates more power like nitro in glow fuel... when it couldnt be further from the case. I tried the VP 97 to see if cylinder head temps dropped with no ethanol... but that was the only reason. I havent had any issues with my carbs and ethanol... yet... even with all the fuel I burn. I saw cylinder temps drop some... but nothing to get overly excited about...

Octane is a fuels resistance to detonate under pursue. The lower the octane the lower the psi needed to cause the fuel to ignite without a spark. When the fuel ignites before the spark plug fires it cause detonation. What happens is around the outside of the combustion chamber the fuel ignites and starts burning towards center. A fraction of a second later the plug fires and ignites the fuel in the center of the combustion chamber. The two flame fronts then collide and where they hit they cause a super heated spot that then acts like a cutting touch and burns a tiny portion of the piston. This happens thousands times a minute until it burns a hole in the piston.

The higher the compression ratio the higher the potential energy of the fuel. IE at 10:1 the fuel can make 30 hp but at 12 :1 can make 40 hp. The trick is to match the motor to the octane so that there is no detanation and no wasted energy

Does tuned pipes make a lower compression engine run like a higher compression one?

No, not really. It doesnt boost your compression. If you can time the pulse back perfectly, it can keep you from wasting new fuel/air charge from blowing out the exhaust port giving you a denser, more efficient charge to burn. It doesnt act like a turbo or supercharger on a car though that can dramatically change your compression ratios.. but it may have a small effect.

When I use to drag use, we would run naturally aspirated drag cars above 10.5:1, which is about the highest you want to run on pump gas... so we were running VP, CamII, or similar. On blown or turbo charged motors, we were running compression ratios around 8.5:1 because the added boost was going to bring those ratios up so much that if we ran an 11:1 car, then boosted/charged it, we would be hard pressed to keep it from detonating no matter what fuel we ran... not to mention parts like head gaskets... etc.
