I'm not sure about all the changes over the life of the DLE20, but the first change was an improved ignition to get rid of the horrible step advance curve. Later on, they improved the crankshaft and lower bearing. The lower bearing is a major improvement. Somewhere along the way, all DLE rings improved so they break in much easier these days. There were also some carb changes. Overall, I don't consider them a release 1 or 2 but just a steady improvement / change over time.

Thanks for the explanation.A used DLE 2O is for sale on RC GROUPS but all the
changes you mention are not visible without disassembly.I don't know what to do.
Thanks

The big one would be the ignition module. If it's marked as having 6v max input it's the original, and though not complete junk, is much more difficult to tune around. The later module is marked as having 8.4v max input.

The rest of it is a roll of the dice. If you aren't comfortable with that, you may want to consider staying with a new one.

Good call. There just happens to be a summer sale going on right now. Take 10% off everything at checkout. I just got a VVRC 20 for $199 shipped to my door. I've seen both the VVRC and DLE 20 run side by side and they seem very close in performance if not identical

I have an RCGF 20 I have a ton of time on, as well as the DLE20. I could say the same about those as well. Same rpm on the same prop, both reliable as the day is long.

Point being, if what Muttdog is saying is true (VVRC=DLE), you can pretty much shop for the best deal VVRC, DLE, and RCGF.

In my case both engines were mounted on AB profiles and both had Xoar 17 x 6 props so it was a true comparison. With RCGF included there seems to be a lot of parity in the 20cc ranks. I'm thinking of trying the OS gas/glow plug and eliminating the ignition. Still researching that but there seems to be some positive tests on 20cc engines in other forums. I almost considered getting the compact version from VVRC for that reason as it comes with 1/4-20 plug but there are adapter options and I'm not ready to commit to it yet

My ignition engines run fine and I'm getting all the performance I need from them. I'm holding off on the glow/gas engines until they have a clear track record established. Count me watching glow stuff with interest....but not in any hurry.

Agreed and I'm not sure about a performance increase or not. I still don't understand how the ignition advance works with glow plug. In any case I'm very interested and following it closely in hopes of doing it. I see up to a half pound of weight being removed with the plug, ignition, Ibec or Ig battery, wires, switches etc and that is the main reason for my interest. I'm on a weight kick this year, even lost 65lbs myself.
