Re: DA ENGINE OIL

If you run hot the Redline leaves them cleaner than the MC-1 for sure. Check the corners of the exhaust ports after 5 gallons of each for a "quick" comparison. tBetter to switch to the H1R if you want to stay with the Bel Ray products. Stihl HP Ultra beats all three of them. I believe that by now at least 3w is well aware of that. Amsoil,.... well, I thnk most know where I stand about that so I won't go there tonight.

Then again, one could always heat up a bucket of 90w gear lube and trickle some into the gas for the ultimate in "coverage".

Have always thought the Amsoil was good until getting a 3W Competition when the 120s were not out yet and 3W does not like Amsoil. I was actually carrying 2 different mixes but want the best to use in both. One of the guys from the Flight Team is going Redline but I was using Penzoil at 50:1 in the 3W and thinking the Penzoil full Synthetic. Did have to change the needles slightly on the DA and even the 3w on the Penzoil outdoor. The gas heli pilots also like the Penzoil full synthetic and claim the engines are much cleaner.
I do feel the Amsoil at 100:1 and the Penzoil at 50:1 and not trying to add extra oil as long as it is tuned well is the way to go. Just confused about 3W saying Amsoil is the worst and DA saying it's the best, Penzoil outdoor syn blend? saying it is best for small aircooled motors and full synthetic claiming for watercooled large basically marine motors. Everything added up is conflicting so if you have a DA and a 3W who to believe.

DA has been recommending Redline at 40:1 and stihl HP Ultra @50:1. Redline being prefered for quite a few years now.

If it were mine, I'd use the factory recommended oils, at the factory recommended ratio.

Per the DA120 manual. We recommend a high quality synthetic oil. As for the brand of oil, there are many good ones on the
market. Some oils, and their mix ratios, that Desert Aircraft recommends are: Red-line Two Stroke
Racing Oil (40 to 1), Motul 800 (50 to 1), and Stihl HP Ultra (50 to 1). These oils can be found at
most motorcycle or chainsaw shops.http://www.desertaircraft.com/engine...hp?Page=DA-120

Fuel and Oil Mix
• For the DA120, use Premium pump gas, such as 91 to 93 octane.
• We recommend purchasing your fuel from “name brand” gas stations. We have seen problems with
cheaper gas from some discount type outlets.
• We recommend filtering your fuel between your fuel container and your plane’s fuel tank. A high
flow filter, or clunk/filter, between the tank and motor is also a good idea.
• Make sure the plane’s tank is well vented and the fuel clunk moves freely.
• Use of any other fuel or additives such as nitro formulas, aviation gas, white gas, etc., can
harm the motor and void the warranty.
• Do not use silicone sealers on the fuel system. Gas can break it down and carry it into the carb.

because it's been what...two to three weeks since the last oil thread? I run my DA 120 on 87 from the local liquor store.

It's always funny when someone digs up a 6 year old oil thread.
